“You know, darling, it’s impolite to stare.. But you know I don’t mind when it’s from you.” I smiled softly as he looked at me, and I felt my stomach flutter slightly.

“You don’t..” I tilted my head, and he beckoned me over with two fingers as he patted his lap. My blush coated my face even more as I stood and slowly made my way over to him. Reaching out, he grabbed my waist and lowered me to sit on his lap. I could feel my heart beating faster at our proximity, knowing he could hear it. Instead of pointing it out, however, he simply ran his hand up and down my thigh softly as he returned to work.

Reluctantly, I felt my thoughts race again as I leaned into his hold. Could Killian have feelings for me? Was I letting my anxiety and insecurities cloud my judgment? Looking at it from the surface, it’s hard to think a billionaire would be in love with a nobody.. it quite literally only happens in books.

Painting the picture of the ruthless, coldhearted, and unemotional man was easy in the beginning, but now I’ve fallen for that flawed man. The man who slowly showed me pieces of him that I never knew existed every single day..

As if he could hear my racing thoughts, he placed a small kiss on my lips, catching me by surprise. Looking into his eyes, I gulped softly as he pulled away slightly and pushed a piece of hair from my face behind my ear. Before I could say anything, the phone rang beside him. His eyes stayed on me for a moment before he grabbed his cell and held it to his ear.

“Killian speaking..” He began, and I watched as his jaw ticked in irritation. He leaned up, and I noticed his hands clenching slightly.

“And when were you going to inform me of this schedule change?” He seethed and shook his head as he spoke once again.

“Listen to me, father. I was informed that I have a meeting with you in the morning. I couldn’t give a shit if the damn photoshoot got moved to tomorrow..” His father spoke into the phone again, and I slowly grabbed his clenched hand. He watched me silently as I opened his palm and held it in mine, using my thumb to caress him. Though I had distracted him, he narrowed his eyes as his father continued speaking.

“That is absolute bullshit… You know what?.. Listen here, Frederick-” I tuned him out as I grabbed the phone from him and held it up to my ear while continuing to caress his other hand.

“Hello, Mr. Russel, this is Ms. Newman. How are you?” I heard a slight pause, and he responded.

“Hello, Ms. Newman. I feel much better now that I can’t hear Killian’s voice.”

“My sincere apologies for his behavior today. He’s been on edge all morning and hasn’t had much time to recollect himself.” Killian glared at me, and I ignored him as Frederick spoke.“I see..”

“I’ll ensure he’s at the photo shoot on time and ready for the upcoming meetings this week.” He was quiet for a moment, and then he replied.

“Thank you, Brielle, for putting me at ease with Killian. Sometimes… I don’t know what he’d do without you.”

“Not a problem, sir. We’ll see you in London.”He bid goodbye, and I hung up the phone and handed it back to Killian. I went to pull my hand out of his, but he held it firmly as he laid his head on my shoulder. Blocking out the racing thoughts that wanted to surface again, I rubbed his knuckles that had turned white earlier and mentally prepared myself for the next day.

Exiting Leo’s car, I followed as Killian and Blaine led me into the building. Once we entered, I immediately felt out of place as the long posters of models draped along the walls and the women walking by looked exactly like them. They acknowledged Killian and Blaine before they did me, but once they did, they stared.. not in so much of a judging way but more of a confused or interested way.

Going to the front desk, Killian spoke to the woman, and she immediately stood up and led us to where we needed to go. Getting a total glance at her, she looked to be a model herself. She was about 5‘9“ without heels, her figure was slim, and her facial structure was gorgeous. Once again, I felt totally out of place.

We entered a studio with cameras and backdrops, and Killian was immediately escorted to the dressing room. I went over to Blaine and muttered. “Is.. he going to be alright?”

“Oh, this is nothing. Just wait until Fabrice Masson arrives.” I looked up at him in shock. “You mean Fabrice Masson as inthe Fabrice Masson?”

“The one and only.” He responded, and I stopped speaking. I guess Killian would get one of the most well-known fashion icons and photographers to work for him and his magazine. I walked over to the couch in the corner, leaving Blaine as he was also dragged away. Sitting down while looking around, I felt a bit confused. It was my first time at a photoshoot, so I wasn’t quite sure what was happening. But it was all extremely fast-paced.

The door opened forcefully, and I turned my head to see a man walking in with a tailored brown tuxedo and a black scarf around his neck. His beard looked freshly trimmed, and his hair was slicked down and to the side. His two assistants trailed behind him like pets, and I could already tell it was Fabrice.

“Mr. Masson, everything is ready for the photoshoot. Mr. Russel and Mr. Porter are already finished.” As Killian and Blaine walked out of the dressing room, Fabrice didn’t say anything. Blaine, of course, had a huge smile, but Killian had a scowl that clearly indicated his annoyance. Fabrice snapped his fingers once, and one of his assistants quickly rushed over to him.

“Y-yes, sir?”

“Get these two gentlemen a glass of wine.. It seems as though they’d much rather be anywhere but here… and I don’t blame them. You people couldn’t even do the simplest of tasks.” I was taken aback by his choice of words, but it seems nobody else was. Oddly enough, he appeared to make Killian loosen up a bit. Fabrice then directed him over to the set after a brief greeting.

Killian sat on a black stool in front of the white backdrop as Fabrice began giving directions. I watched him, holding in my smile as he made corrections to his posture but never once changed his facial expression. I heard a sigh of frustration coming from Fabrice as he clenched the papers in his hands slightly.

“Killian, you are doing amazing, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you could just give me another facial expression, a smirk, or maybe a smile, I promise this will be over quickly.” He pleaded, though the look on Killian’s face told me he was trying hard enough as it was. I approached the set slowly, and Killian’s eyes directed over to me.

I tilted my head as I mouthed the word ‘smile. He shook his head, and I could see the confusion on everyone’s face as he did so. I mouthed it once again, and he just stared at me. I sighed and glared at him playfully, to which the side of his mouth went up slightly, making Fabrice gasp and drop his clipboard as he took multiple photos of Killian’s slight smirk. After a few seconds, he looked at the camera, and his expression dropped, but Fabrice had already gotten what he needed.

I giggled at Killian’s behavior and sent him a slight wink as I walked back over to the couch in the corner. Once I sat down, I then noticed Fabrice staring at me and one of his models whispering in his ear. He nodded his head and whispered back to the woman, to which she nodded and smiled my way, making me feel even more confused. Fabrice approached me, and I gulped slightly as this was the first time he saw me today. He stopped before me, and I looked down at my heels, trying to avoid his stare.

“What is your name?”

I looked up at him and spoke. “Brielle Newman, sir..”
