“B-but what am I going to do with five million dollars? It’s far too much.”

“Anything you want… it’s yours now.” Silence came upon them again, and Brielle turned to Killian as tears were falling from her eyes. Killian looked around the room, confused.

“I’m sorry. Was the gift not enough? Why is everyone crying? I have my checkbook upstairs if it’s a problem-” Brielle shut him up as she placed a kiss on his lips and pulled away before speaking. “Killian, you did perfectly.”

“So, why is everyone crying?” He asked, genuinely concerned as even his mother looked like she was going to cry.

“Tears of joy, Killian. Tears of joy.” Benjamin assured, and only then did Killian realize why everyone looked sad but happy at the same time. He stood up, and Madam A and Mr. Burkley hugged him as they thanked him with all of their hearts. Blaine stood after a moment and went over to the tree.

“Okay, stop being so sad. I need to give my present to Delilah.” Hearing her name, the little girl looked up and smiled as Blaine picked up a box that was wrapped very specifically. It had a lid rather than being sealed shut, and the wrapping paper had tiny holes in its polka dots. Sliding off Eleanor’s lap, she went over to Blaine, who was now sitting on the couch. Placing the box in front of his legs, he smiled at the little girl.

“Go on now… You can open it.” Delilah looked down at the box and slowly started to lift the lid. The moment the box was opened, she let out a loud gasp, and she picked it up slowly.

“Puppy.” Was all she said as she held the tiny creature in her arms. The whole room lit up as they watched the little girl hold the energetic and affectionate dog.

“T-thank you, Uncle Blainey,” Delilah cried, trying to hold back her tears, and Blaine smiled.

“You’re welcome, Dede.”

Brielle smiled as the room erupted into a conversation about the little puppy, and she heard the doorbell ring. Being the first to stand, Killian looked up at her, and she spoke.

“I’ll get it.” He watched as she left the living room and went towards the front entrance. Turning back, Killian bit his lip as he couldn’t help but feel the need to go after her. Following his instincts, he stood up, excusing himself as he left the room.

Brielle placed her hand on the doorknob and pulled it open with a smile, wondering who it could’ve been at this time. Upon opening the door, her smile slowly started to fall, and her face was emotionless as she saw who it was. It was as if time had stopped, and she could feel her chest starting to rise and fall quickly. Her mind was slowly going to a blank, and more tears were coming to her eyes.

Killian quickly approached the door and saw that she was standing there, motionless. The second he entered the doorway, he saw who it was and muttered.

“Shit..”

“Eugene…” She uttered slowly, and Eugene responded sadly.

“Brielle… Hi,” It didn’t take a genius to notice how tense Brielle was. Killian also noticed how she clenched her fist twice and squared her shoulders.

And then, all hell broke loose.

Marissa entered her father’s office and slammed two magazines on the table. He looked up at her as he fixed his glasses. “What’s wrong?”

“Look at this!” She yelled, and he glanced down, and immediately, his mood switched as Marissa continued. “Most beautiful woman, my ass. Who the hell does she think she is?!”

“Patience, my child, I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for all of this-” She cut him off angrily.

“The only explanation is that our plans are failing. She’s obviously doing a lot better than what we thought she was.” Taking his glasses off, Gregory rubbed his eyes as he tried to calm himself.

“Did you go to the courthouse?” He asked hopefully, and Marissa nodded.

“Luckily, they’re believing my alibi, and we should hear back from them soon.”

“What about that Calvin of yours?” Her father questioned, and she sighed. “He stopped making the payments and left the country… How does he want my help then all of a sudden want nothing to do with me?”

“The man has a plan.. and it looks like using you may have been his mistake. He’s most likely regretting having anything to do with us..” Gregory answered truthfully, and Marissa agreed completely.

He spoke again, folding his arms as he leaned back and glanced down at the magazine with his youngest daughter displayed on the cover. “Now we wait and compile all evidence to use against Brielle… Trust me, my child, after this… she and Eugene will be no more…”

Chapter fifty-four

Killian didn’t have enough time to react as Brielle started attacking Eugene with her fists, going straight for his chest. Getting ready to intervene, Killian watched as Eugene shook his head discreetly as if telling him to let him get what he deserved. Even though her punches weren’t extremely hard, Eugene could feel them getting harder by the minute.

Eyes blinded by her tears, Brielle was internally trying to calm herself, but her heart continued feeling heavy as she let out all of her anger. Eventually, she ended up tackling Eugene, and he, in return, tried shielding his face as a punch came dangerously close to breaking his nose. Deciding it was enough, Killian picked Brielle up off of him, and she kicked as she tried to get free from his grasp, which seemed impossible.
