“I’ll be fine, Killian.” She responded as she stood up. Walking into the nursery, she laid him in the crib before turning on the baby monitor. She left the room and pulled the door slightly as she turned off the lights. Passing by Delilah’s bedroom, she saw that Killian had already tucked her in. Feeling his arms wrap around her waist from behind, she rested her head back on his chest.

“Ready for bed?” He asked, and Brielle nodded. He grabbed her hand and pulled her into their bedroom to prepare for the night.

The following day, Brielle sat in Delilah’s room as she fixed her hair into a pretty half-up-half-down style. Brielle grabbed a black bow and placed it into her hair, and the little girl looked up.

“Are you okay, Mommy?” Brielle nodded her head with a forced smile.

“I’m just excited… today is a big day for you..”

Delilah beamed happily as she spoke. “It is! I can’t wait!! I’m a little nervous, but Kimi is coming too!”

Brielle did the last finishing touches and stood her up. “She sure is. I’m sure you two will have a blast.” She helped button up the blazer that matched her skirt and fixed her little tie. Rubbing her shoulder, she kissed Delilah’s forehead.

“Alright, all done. Benny has breakfast ready for you downstairs.” Nodding her head, Delilah skipped out of the room, leaving Brielle in her thoughts as she sat on the bed. She heard footsteps approaching the door, and Killian leaned against the frame as he watched her.

She bit her lip and looked over at him. Although Brielle was happy her daughter was considered rather intelligent for her age, she unconsciously felt like she’d been growing up too fast.

“I-I don’t know if I’m ready, Killy.” Killian walked over to her, and she hugged his waist once he was at arm’s length. Running his hands through her hair, he sighed.

“It’s too late for that, love. I tried to get it out of you before we signed her up and told her about it, but you were too stubborn…”

“Because I thought I was going to be okay..”

“And you are going to be.. I want you to wipe your tears and be the strong mommy you are. Part of having children is letting them get older and grow up.”

“Remember online schooling? She could do that.. I don’t want her to feel under pressure.. What if she’s not ready for the next grade? We could always start with kindergarten like a normal family..” She rambled, and Killian shook his head.

“You and I know better than anyone else that we are not a normal family, darling..”

“They don’t always have to grow up…” Brielle pouted, and Killian chuckled.

“You know that they need to eventually… We can go take her together and be the ones to see her off.” Nodding her head, Brielle stood up and grabbed his hand. Walking down the stairs, they were met with Benjamin placing Delilah’s jacket on and putting her school bag on her shoulders as Reginald walked over with a sleeping Zachary in his arms.

Brielle and Killian bid them goodbye and walked Delilah out to the car to help her into her booster seat. On the way, Brielle continued feeling unsettling in her chest. Before she could say or do anything, they had already reached the school grounds.

Delilah squealed as she ripped her seatbelt off and went to open the door. Brielle stepped out of the car and looked at the other children who had come out of their parent’s cars and walked into the building. Other children also appeared and were escorted out by their drivers or butlers. Brielle leaned down and placed a kiss on Delilah’s head as she hugged her.

“I think I see Kimiko getting out of Masahiko’s car,” Killian spoke, and Brielle smiled sadly.

“Have a good first day, baby.” She whispered as Delilah waved them goodbye.

“Bye, Mommy, bye, Daddy!” She ran off to see Kimiko, and Brielle felt Killian wrapping his arms around her waist. As expected, Killian felt her try to move forward as if she wanted to go after Delilah.

“I don’t want to be a strong mommy, Killian..” Brielle said as tears welled up in her eyes. She watched the two girls enter the building, and he pulled her into his chest as he shushed her silently.

“It’s okay, love, we’ll see her around two, remember? No need to worry. Now, how about we get home, hmm?” Brielle reluctantly nodded her head and allowed him to take her back to the car.

“Hello, children. My name is Ms. Dawn, and I’m your teacher for the year.” Delilah listened to the woman speak as she sat beside Kimi.

“I’m so excited!” Kimiko whispered, and Delilah nodded as she looked around.

“There are so many other kids here..” She whispered back. Ms. Dawn spoke to the children once again and got them settled with the rules and setup. She grabbed their coloring sheets and smiled.

“Today, our first lesson will be about colors. I know it’s only our first day, but some of your mommies and daddies put you in this class to prepare you for next month’s first-grade placement test because you’re all very special and smart. So, I know this shouldn’t be too hard! Now, I want you all to pull out your crayons and get your red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple ones. Can anyone tell me what these colors are a part of?” The majority of the children raised their hands, and Ms. Dawn called on Delilah as she read her nametag.

“They’re colors of the rainbow,”Delilah spoke, and Ms. Dawn smiled.

“Perfect, Delilah. Since you did so well, would you like to pass out the coloring sheets to your classmates?” Delilah nodded enthusiastically, and Kimiko pouted as her best friend stood up and walked to the front.
