“That’s not true.” She turned to Delilah, who, in return, shrugged and walked to their room to get ready. Brielle’s face dropped.

“That isn’t true, right?” She came around from the kitchen, and Delilah yelled back.

“He’ll be here in ten minutes!”

Chapter nine

“He’ll be here in ten minutes!”

Brielle groaned as she walked into her room. She crossed her arms at the little four-year-old, dressed in a white sweater and some leggings and pulling on her brown boots.

“Delilah, you can’t be trying to set me up with Killian. For Christ’s sake, you don’t even know how to count to 100 yet.” Delilah smiled at her.

“You have seven minutes left.” Brielle groaned.

“Now, all of a sudden, you can tell time?” She asked and shook her head. “This isn’t over.” She hurriedly went into her closet and put on a black button-up cardigan sweater with some jeans and a pair of flats.

She heard the dreaded knock at the door and hurriedly tried to put some fake diamond studs in her ears and lip gloss on her lips. She stopped midway and questioned herself in the mirror looking.‘Why am I so excited to see him all of a sudden?’

Before she could answer herself, she heard giggling in the living room. She quickly grabbed her purse and went out the bedroom door. She smiled softly as she saw Killian holding Delilah as he tickled her stomach. It amazed her that the same person who told his employee to ‘fuck off’ this morning was being so soft and generous towards a little girl. He looked over to her and smiled.

“Hello, darling.” She blushed as she played with the ends of one of her braids.

“H-hi, Killian,” she said, scolding herself for stuttering and forcing her hand back down to her side.Snap out of it.

“I’m sure Delilah told you I wanted to speak with you. She suggested we speak over dinner. Is that alright with you?” Brielle gulped softly and nodded.

“Yeah, that’s fine. Not a problem.” He smiled at her, and she avoided his gaze as she went to grab her phone. She turned all the appliances off in the apartment and came back.

“Ready,” She said, and he nodded as he walked out. Brielle could see the happiness in Delilah’s eyes as she looked back at her, but she could also see a bit of cheekiness that was showing through. She followed behind Killian, and they went down the stairs.

Brielle looked for George’s car before exiting the complex but didn’t see it. Instead, she noticed a custom Rolls-Royce that looked cleaner than her apartment. When she finished situating Delilah in the back seat, Killian opened the front door for Brielle, who thanked him softly. He got in himself and drove off. They sat in a somewhat comfortable silence as Delilah’s voice would fill the air every now and then.

Brielle noticed they were starting to enter the more affluent side of town and looked out the window in awe as Delilah did the same. Killian looked over his shoulder several times while watching the girls look at the different restaurants and buildings.

They reached his complex, and as he opened the door for them, they strained their necks to look up at the building. Killian gave his keys to the valet and led the girls inside. Brielle’s eyes widened as on the inside, behind the receptionist, was a large gold plaque that read KR Inc. Ironically, Killian had his own hotel and apartment franchise within his business, and he happened to live in one of them.

Every person in the room directed their eyes to them, and Killian didn’t seem fazed by it. Meanwhile, Delilah was trying to hide behind Brielle’s hand, who wished she could’ve hidden as well. They reached the elevator, and Killian pressed the top floor and held his finger on the button. Brielle watched as the button slowly started to light up as it scanned his finger. Once it finished, the doors closed, and the elevator ascended.

“I have different security precautions in my various facilities.” He simply stated as Brielle nodded her head. The doors opened, and Brielle had to pick her jaw off the floor as she eyed the expensive, luxurious penthouse that her boss called his home. She looked at Killian in shock and asked the question clouding her brain.

“How much did this cost?” Killian tilted his head and responded.

“68 million.” Brielle nodded silently, and they looked to the stairs as they heard a voice.

“Oh my…” Benjamin spoke as he had many emotions going through his eyes. Surprise, contentment, and simply pure shock. He approached them and groaned as he walked.

“Why didn’t George inform me that we had guests? I would have certainly whipped up my famous apple crumble. I swear, the lad can be quite forgetful.” Killian rolled his eyes at his antics and spoke.

“George didn’t drop us off, Ben, so, of course, he wouldn’t have known.”

“Oh well, my apologies. The name is Benjamin. You must be Brielle.” Benjamin stuck his hand out to shake hers, and she shook his hand with a smile. He looked down at the little girl and retracted his hand.

“And you must be Delilah.” Delilah giggled and nodded her head.

“I had Linda prepare something, so I’m sure it’s ready,” Killian spoke, trying to get rid of Benjamin. Linda was one of his maids and cooks. She only came less than a few times a month to help Benjamin, as she also worked in his other locations.

“No wonder I heard the various noises from my quarters.. Shall I escort you to the dining room?”
