“Of course. She’s right this way.” She held the stick in her hand as she walked me towards the back, and I could see into each class as we walked past. Some of them could see us as well, and once they saw the stick in her hand, their faces turned rather serious.

“You know, Brielle has kept to herself all day. Can I ask why?”

“We had.. a very unpleasant encounter with Marissa, Brielle’s sister, the other day.” She stopped in her tracks abruptly and turned towards me with fury in her eyes.

“You mean that she-devil that left my baby in the hospital and never had the audacity to call back Brielle!!”She asked me angrily, switching to her native tongue, Russian, and I shook my head as I responded.

“Trust me. I don’t like her any more than you do.”She looked shocked for a second before smiling.

“I didn’t know you spoke Russian.. I’ll have to watch what I say around you.” I gave a slight shrug. “Most people do..”

“Why would she return just when my blood pressure was returning to normal…” She muttered absentmindedly, and I continued.

“Brielle hasn’t been herself since that night.. I just want to be sure she’s alright.” We stopped at the door, and she nodded.

“Well, you go comfort her and make her and Delilah feel safe like I know you will.” I nodded my head, and before she left, she spoke once more.

“I’m expecting this wedding to happen in the next year or so and another grandchild soon,” I smiled at her boldness and shook my head.

“I like the way you think, but sadly. Brielle doesn’t.”

“She does like the way you think.. you just need to give her a reason to consider it.”

“I don’t think I’m following your reasoning.” I furrowed my eyebrows, and she continued.

“You both will feel it eventually. Hell, you probably already do. The hardest part is accepting and saying what you truly feel to one another, all with the constant fear of rejection.” I tilted my head to the side as I spoke.

“You mean-” I began, and she cut me off as she shrugged innocently.

“I don’t know what I mean, Killian. I’m just a crazy Russian lady giving relationship advice, but hey. Who knows? You may thank me later…”

Chapter thirty-three

Madam A walked away as Killian opened the door of the room and stepped in. There, he saw Brielle standing by the bar practicing. From his perspective, she looked absolutely stunning. Her dance attire hugged her hourglass figure as her hair cascaded down her back in waves.

“….The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart,”Killian whispered, and Brielle looked up and noticed him behind her in the mirror.

“…Words written by a woman who couldn’t see or even hear herself,” Brielle uttered softly, and Killian chuckled.

“I suppose you would know the wise words of Hellen Keller.. you worked in a library for the last few years.” Brielle turned to face him and didn’t say anything. Killian approached her slowly, and he could tell she was feeling off.

“…How are you, Brielle?” He asked, tilting his head. “..I’m fine.”

He smirked at her reply. “I’d like another answer.. one that isn’t an automatic defense mechanism.” She shrugged her shoulders, though she couldn’t hide the tears that wanted to come to her eyes.

“Tell me what you know I’ll believe.” He muttered as she looked down at her pointe shoes and said nothing. Killian lifted her chin with his finger and wiped the single tear that fell. “Brielle.. tell me what’s wrong.” He almost pleaded, and she shook her head.

“…I am terrified of my sister and what she wants to do to me.” He pulled her over to him and brushed the hair out of her face as he continued to let her speak.

“I took care of Delilah. I raised her as my own. I was in the hospital room when she was in the NICU.. I was at the hospital when she couldn’t breathe for hours sometimes. And she.. she called my baby a burden. Now.. now when things seem much more manageable, she wants to rip e-everything I’ve worked for and take her away from me.” She sobbed, and Killian tightened his arms around her as she hugged him back.

“S-she abandoned me.. us.” She whispered, and Killian sighed.

“…We are going to put a stop to Marissa and Calvin.”

“H-How Killian? I know she won’t be able to take Delilah because of what she’s done, but what if she does something to make it seem like that day never happened? She has contact with my parents. I know they don’t want me around too. She has other connections, money, resources-”

“And you don’t?” He asked, and she shook her head.
