“It sure is one Benjamin… What are you doing up so early?” I inquired, and he shrugged.

“I have a parcel being delivered in a few minutes, so I wanted to ensure I was on time.” He said nonchalantly, and I rolled my eyes. With his monthly pay of $75 grand.. I wouldn’t have expected less.

“Of course you do,” I muttered, walking away, and he spoke, stopping me in my tracks.

“Brielle informed me about Thanksgiving..” I sighed.

“And what next? Another family get-together for Christmas?” Benjamin opened his mouth to say something but closed it quickly.

“Oh, don’t tell me she’s also spoken to you about Christmas?” I continued, and he shrugged. “It was just a brief conversation on the subject. She only gave me her thoughts and opinions on what we should do.”

“You agreed with her, didn’t you?”

“Well, it would be rude of me not to.” He reasoned, and I sighed as I ignored him and made my way to my room.

Brielle walked into my office with the documents and sat them on my desk as I finished reading the contract I was sent from one of my executives in France. In my efforts to push back a few of the meetings, I had scheduled so I could have enough time to focus on the affairs with my father, my emails and messages overflowed constantly.

Brielle also sent the Thanksgiving invitations out this morning, and I felt my irritation levels skyrocket as each person replied with a resounding ‘yes.’ To make matters worse, I had to sit with a ‘smile’ on my face as I listened to her rejoice this morning about how excited she was.

However, I only agreed to all of this so we could come back to the States and I could confront Eugene. He’s been keeping an extremely low profile since I last saw him, but I couldn’t let that happen. I needed to figure out why he’s been hiding away from Brielle for so long. It was as if he was trying to get back into her life, but something was holding him back.

Brielle brought me out of my thoughts as she placed my coffee before me. I hadn’t even noticed if she had left the room or come back in with it.

“Would you like me to read you your schedule for the day?” She asked, and I nodded as I looked away from the computer.

“Yes, please.” She opened her iPad and sat in the chair in front of my desk.

“Well, you have a meeting this morning at 10:15 with your stockbrokers from level 20. At 11:30, you’re scheduled with another meeting with your accountants from level 5 and…” She paused, and I looked up at her in question.

“What seems to be the problem?”

“Anna wrote a note on the schedule saying that Blaine set up a lunch meeting with you from 12:30 to 2.. at the same time, a meeting was supposed to occur with a few of your superintendents from building #4 down the street..” I looked away from her as I contemplated why Blaine would try to schedule a lunch meeting when he had a copy of my schedule so this sort of thing would never arise.

“I can call him and reschedule for a different time if it’s not essential..” She continued, and I tilted my head as I responded.

“Did he leave any note as to why he wanted this meeting to occur or why he didn’t call me to confirm?” She looked down at her screen once again.

“It just says… ‘Operation E.N.’ Whatever that means.” She said obliviously, and I let out an audible sigh as I rubbed my temples.

“God, Blaine is such an idiot,” I muttered, as he obviously meant ‘Operation Eugene Newman.’

“I’m sorry?” she asked, not quite hearing me, and I shook my head.

“Nothing.. This meeting with Blaine, unfortunately, cannot be missed, so I won’t be able to make it to my other meeting..”

“Would you like me to cancel it for you?” She asked, and I thought a little harder about why Blaine would schedule a meeting rather than just telling me himself. My eyes widened slightly as I could see what he was thinking. Now he’s back to being an idiot genius.

“Well, darling, since I only meet with those offices occasionally, the reports and data I receive from them just simply cannot be missed.”

“What would you like to do about this situation?”

Sitting back in my chair, I shrugged. “You’ll just have to go to this meeting for me..”

“…By myself?”

“Yes..”

“Without you there to direct anything?”
