We’re suddenly interrupted by a door swinging open and slamming into the wall next to it. Aimee floats out like she’s on a cloud, beaming the most grandiose smile I’ve ever seen. She's apparently tried on the lavender and pink dresses, but this mint-colored one takes the cake.

“Oh, I think this is the best one. The green really brings out your eyes,” Juliet says.

“I love it,” Aimee says breathlessly. Her euphoric smile covers her entire face, lighting her hazel eyes with glee. The dress fits every slight curve of hers immaculately. Her waist looks petite, and her hips taper smoothly. The bust makes her cleavage appear tasteful, while the spaghetti straps and tea length make her limbs seem long and slender. It’s the same one from the window, the one that made her fall in love with it. There’s always something about the first dress you’re attracted to. It’s hard to find something you like better, and this one was no exception.

“Oh, Aims, it was made for you!” I giggle as she laughs and twirls like a ballerina, looking down and admiring the dress.

“Absolutely,” my mother echoes. I hate to interrupt her happiness, but I’m ready to leave.

“Well, I looked at everything I wanted to. Are you almost ready to head back? I'm getting bored of people-ing, to be honest.” I smile warmly at Juliet to make sure she knows it isn't her.

“Yeah, let me change. I really want to wear this, but I don’t need to look like a fairy princess everywhere I go. I suppose.” She casts one last look at her newfound treasure before heading back to where her normal clothes wait for her.

Again, I roll my eyes and chuckle, Aimee brings the dress and a shirt that I’d found while Mom and I wait near the door. She called it a welcome home gift since she didn’t get me anything when I first got back. We all wave at Juliet on our way out of the store and thank her for helping us.

"Hey, babe,” Tyr says as I walk in the front door. Navigating home was easy, but stepping into the house is different. It’s like I don’t belong here. Like I’m supposed to be somewhere else. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something isn’t quite right here.

"Where were you? It's about time you showed up. You've been gone all fucking day. I had plans for us, but I guess that isn't happening now. You said you'd only be gone for a few hours, and it's been more than that," he says frustratedly.

"I, um…we’re done now. I'm sorry, we got to talking and shopping. I didn't know you had plans, sorry."

"Good, I’ve been waiting for you. I NEED you. To see you– feel you. You've been gone too long.” He undresses me with his eyes and gives me that knowing smirk. I feel naked standing next to him, and it makes me feel alive again. He picks me up and carries me to the bed.

Tattoos and You

“Where have you been?" Aimee asks as I hand her a steaming latte the barista just handed me through the coffee shop window.

"Nowhere. Tyr and I have just been hanging out. I guess he made plans for us." I take a careful sip of my mocha as I begin to pull out of the drive-thru.

"Hm, okay." Aimee gives me a sideways glance as she places her warm beverage in one of the cupholders that separates our seats. “I overheard you talking to your mom about what happened in the bath, but I didn’t really hear what she said. Everything okay? It’s obviously still on your mind,” she observes while fiddling with her hair and looking out the window.

“Yeah, I don’t really know at this point. Everything’s still kinda out of whack.”

“Okay, I get that, but-”

Another vehicle slams against the trunk of my car. The brutal force of it makes my seatbelt lock in place, straining against my collarbone. Aimee throws one of her hands against the dashboard to brace herself as the other flies in front of my midsection. Our arms almost tangle as I jut my hand in front of her upper chest simultaneously.

We both rattle off the normal questions, making sure we are both okay, as we try to figure out what has just occurred.

We hear a muffled noise, and both turn towards the sound. A very attractive man is walking up to the driver’s side window.

“What the fuck, dude?!” I scream at the man, even though my window is rolled up. I can’t help but realize that he isn’t just attractive– he is absolutely stunning. He has sultry green eyes and long black hair. I usually hate men with long hair because, most of the time, it’s greasy and unruly. But somehow, this man makes it work. His tendrils hang down just below his shoulders and are the perfect opacity; not too thin, but not too thick. His clean-cut beard is trimmed at just the right angle, making his jawline cut through the air. The way he allows his crisp suit to hug his thighs and shoulders makes it evident he’s a man who likes to be in charge.

He has several tattoos that peek out just beyond his collar and sleeves. I can’t make out any specifics on designs or phrases, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is just a preview of his entire body.

I struggle to undo my seatbelt and get out of the car. Once I do, I’m taken aback by how tall he is. A few inches taller than Tyr, he’s gazing down like he already knows me.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.” His voice is deep and mellow, with a slight rasp to it. “I’m in a huge rush. Is there any way we can handle this later?”

“Sure, I guess. But like, what the fuck, dude? You seriously have to watch where you're going!” I’m actually glad he doesn’t want to deal with this at the moment. I just want to get home. All he did was run into my bumper but still. With one hand on my hip, I reach out with my other. “Unlock your phone and give it to me. I don’t have all fucking day, and you already said you were in a hurry.”

I take his unlocked cell from his outstretched palm, noticing the veins in his wrists and the ink decorating the back of his hand and fingers. I put my number in and send a text to myself so I have his information as well. If he’s capable of getting into a minor wreck with me, I don’t trust him to take initiative when it comes to the exchange of insurance.

“Thanks, Nova.” He smirks as he reads my name on his screen. “I’m Aleksandr, by the way. I’ll find you tomorrow. I appreciate this. So sorry again.”

“I’ll hold you to that, Aleksandr! You better call or text me. I have your info now!” I yell to him as he lights a cigarette and retreats to his beautiful white car.

“Wow! Was he gorgeous or what?” I turn and see Aimee standing just outside her door with a hand on the roof of the car.
