He leans forward, bringing his lips close to my ear. “How about one more?”

Before I can answer, another orgasm blossoms inside me. This one is slow and gentle, nothing like the explosions I’d just barely managed to survive. My inner walls clench around his cock, and he heaves a satisfied sigh.

“I love that feeling,” he says, pumping his hips lightly to draw out the waves of my release.

“I love you,” I slur, feeling the edges of my mind grow dark as I lean forward to slump into his chest.

“And I, you,” he says, ignoring my sleepy protest as he pulls his cock free and picks me up.

Striding toward the door, he holds me firmly with one hand as he twists the knob with the other. The door swings open, and I blink a few times as Jesse goes completely still. He doesn’t move for a few beats, and I lift my drowsy head to look at his face.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, my body tensing as the look of horror on his face chases away the last of my sleepiness.

“Steph,” he says, looking toward the doorway to her room.

I whip my head around to see her door standing open, and I untangle my legs from Jesse’s waist, planting them on the floor. I try to pull out of his arms, to go see what lay beyond that open doorway to make Jesse look so disturbed, but he spins me around and gives me a little push back into the bathroom.

“Jesse––” I start to argue, but he cuts me off.

“Get dressed, Eden. We need to search the house. Steph is gone.”

YOU CAN’T BE TOO CAREFUL…

My heart is racing and my lungs are fighting for oxygen as I yank my clothes on with jerky movements. My shirt’s inside out, but I don’t give a fuck as I follow Jesse out into the hall. I try to quiet my breathing as I walk beside him, knowing he’s listening for any sign of Steph’s whereabouts.

Why did she leave her bedroom? Jesse confirmed she was sound asleep not twenty minutes ago. Why would she get up and decide to go roam around a mansion filled with vampires, alone?

And the one possibility I refuse to even consider…

What if she didn’t leave of her own volition? What if she was taken?

“I’ve got her,” Jesse says, the words breaking through my internal freak out. “This way.”

He takes my hand and pulls me toward the staircase. I jog down the steps behind him on light feet, and our shoes squeak on the tile floors at the bottom as he pulls me to the right and down a short hall.

Familiar laughter fills my ears as we approach an open doorway at the end, and my steps hurry until I’m in front of Jesse, bursting into what turns out to be a bright, oversized kitchen. My gaze slides across the room as I grind to a halt, then widens as it lands on Steph.

She’s not alone.

“Hey, you two. I was wondering when you’d come charging to the rescue.”

“Jasmine?” I breathe, and her emerald eyes light with mischief as she smirks at me.

What is Jesse’s sister doing with Steph? My eyes move over to my best friend, scanning the delicate skin of her throat for any trace of bite marks. But Steph looks totally fine, smiling brightly while waving me over.

“Hey, guys. I was starving and couldn’t find you, so I wandered around until I met Jazz, and she brought me in here to get a snack. Eden, you never told me Jesse’s sister was so cool.”

I blink several times, my mind going completely blank as I try to process the scene before me. Jasmine and Steph are on opposite sides of a marble island, a bowl of potato chips between them. Steph looks unharmed and happy, and Jasmine looks, well, like Jasmine.

In the end, the only thing that comes out of my mouth is “Jazz?”

“I told her she could call me that. We’re fast friends, she and I. Isn’t that lovely?” Jasmine says, her bright smile not quite reaching her eyes.

“Jasmine,” Jesse says from beside me, his tone turning that single word into a warning of dire consequences.

“Why so serious, brother?” Jasmine asks, the words as mocking as they are combative. “I’m only being a good host, welcoming your mate’s friend into our home with open arms.”
