He gives me a look. “Abstainin’, at least for a time, can be good to clear the mind.”

I shake my head. “Sounds like a whole lot of dick pullin’ to me.”

“That’s because you’re a physical being, I get that. But the mind connection is a powerful thing. Like with Aspyn, she’s not just ticklin’ your nuts because she’s hot or has pretty eyes. You’re connectin’ with her on another level, which is why you said you’ve never felt like this before. Sex is sex. Anyone can have it. Anyone can do it, but not everyone can connect on that level that makes you want to climb the highest mountain, or give up other women.”

Do I wanna give up other women? I know right away the answer to that is yes.

“I don’t deserve her,” I mutter. “I know that already.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. Despite your flaws, I see good in you, Rock. This whole club does, or else you wouldn’t be here.”

I give him a small smile of gratitude. “Thanks for the vote of confidence.”

“You’re welcome. And give yourself some credit where it’s due. You can at least admit that you have feelin’s for her, if not to me, to yourself.”

“If it’s that obvious, Cash is gonna start noticin’.”

“I just observe well, and I can only tell you from experience, if you don’t stop and smell the roses, you will burn out and then you’ll lose everything.”

I shift in my seat.

I get the feeling he’s not just talking from experience; it’s coming from a place of pain. I really haven’t spent that much time talking to the man, so I don’t know much about his background.

“I’ll remember to have my panic attacks in private from now on,” I mutter.

“No need.” He slaps me on the back. “Can always come to confession on Sundays. I’m helpin’ out a friend for a few weeks while he’s away.”

My eyes go wide. “For real?”

“Don’t look so shocked. I’m technically Catholic, but I don’t preach the Catholic faith. I’m more on a spiritual path. The club has helped with that, but I also help out the church from time to time. Mainly, when they’re in a jam.”

“I didn’t think you were really a priest.”

He smiles. “I’m not. I started to do my training, but then I went to prison. It’s a long story, bein’ in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’ve tried to stay out of trouble since then. I have to try to live up to some of the promises I made.”

“When were you inside?”

He looks wistful. “A long time ago. Can’t say I’ve been a complete saint. But since comin’ to the club, I’ve changed my ways a lot. I’ve reconfirmed my vows to God.”

“Does that mean no pussy?”

He laughs. “No, not forever. It’s not as difficult as you would assume.”

“Then why do it?” I can’t imagine life without sex.

“Like I said. From time to time, it’s healthy, and if it reconnects you, then you’ll be a better man for it.”

Priest is a man who you’d never think has a care in the world. He’s the calmest brother out of everyone. I guess that’s his job, but still.

“I guess I’ll take your word for it.”

He snorts. “I guess you’ll have to.”

I don’t know if I should thank him or get down on my knees and pray, but all of a sudden, goddamn Nevada knocks on the window and scares the living shit out of us.

“Open up,” he says as I unlock the doors. He climbs in the back.

“It’s goin’ down,” Nevada says, excitement in his tone. “Harlem confirmed the fight tonight, and it’s one that Forger has a big wager on. He’s been incognito for weeks, but in order to make the next cocaine drop with the miscreants he’s dealin’ to, he has to show up. Big Papa is all set.”
