“Bodyguard stuff?”

“Surveillance. This is a one off.”

I like the idea that he hasn’t done this before. That he hasn’t been trapped in some apartment with some other girl who finds him attractive. Which just goes to show you how naive I really am. As if this man can’t get any woman he wants or would be interested in someone like me.

I may have money, but I don’t buy into the Hollywood fishbowl. My boobs are my own and I’m proud to say I don’t have silicone shoved into my lips, or Botox, for that matter. Which is sacrilege amongst my other friends in LA who swear by it. Here it feels like I can let myself completely go and not care who notices.

What a thrilling thought.

And having Rock here with me, even if my slight crush on him is completely one-sided, doesn’t worry me.

I’ve made this a fleeting fantasy, instead of the reality it is. Two people being forced together into a situation neither of them can get out of.

Well, I can pass the time however I damn well want.

The one thing my father doesn’t own is my mind. And it’s gonna stay that way.

He may have my free will, and make all my decisions for me, but he can’t have this.

My thoughts are my own.

“Oh.” Why do I keep saying that? I do like the idea that this is a once off.

It also means Cash trusts him implicitly.

Pirate skits past me and I try to catch him, but he jumps up on the couch instead.

“He’s a little wayward at times,” I explain, glad that he hasn’t hissed at Rock or tried to bite him. “Especially new places.”

Rock snorts. “He’ll get used to it.”

I push open the first door I come to. It’s a nice spacious room and has a queen bed and a bathroom attached with a large walk-in closet. Again, there are views of the city from the window. The decor is neutral with a plush, fluffy throw and lots of pillows.

I can see that my father had a decorator in because these are all my colors.

There are also more yellow roses in a vase on the side table. I smile to myself.

Though, if Rock is staying here, I doubt he’s going to appreciate it.

The next room is the same carbon copy of the first room, decorated the same. Opposite that is an office set up with a computer sitting on an expensive looking mahogany desk and bookshelves galore. There’s also a small laundry room. I wince at the fancy washer and dryer and Rock notices.

“Don’t tell me…”

“Shut up.”

“Do you know how to work one of these things?”

I roll my eyes. “Of course I do.”

“Show me then.”

Before I can think, I punch him on the arm and he laughs, pretending to be hurt. “Ouch.”

“That didn’t hurt.”

“You’re right, it didn’t, which has me thinkin’… I should show you some self-defense. You ever done anythin’ like that?”

I turn to look at him. “No,” I lie. “Do I need to know that? Isn’t that what I have you for?” A new plan starts to brew in my head.
