“Is he okay?”

“He’s fine. He helped us finish all of this up remotely, and… honestly this will probably be good for him. Some time away from all of this.”

All of this being me.

“I did offer to drive out and give him some stress relief, but—” Rascal fixes me with a pointed stare, “—he’s still hung up on a certain brat.”

And that brat is very much hung up on him.

“Where is he?”

Rascal taps his chin in that mock way people do to make you think they don’t know but he absolutely does. When I glare, he breaks out into a grin.

“The same place you left him.”

I don’t plan on going back to my room and packing a bag, but without a word that’s exactly what I turn around and do. It takes me all of five minutes, and then I hold my hand out to Atty in the doorway.

“Can I borrow the Jeep?”

He doesn’t hide his smile, and it’s been no secret that he thinks I’m being ridiculous for turning Corvin down in the first place.

“Anyone with eyes can see that you’re into him.”

“If you do anything unsavory, please clean the seats before you give it back.”

I roll my eyes because I’m not going all the way out there to hook up with him. I’m going so I can tell him how absolutely ridiculous he is, and that he needs to get his butt back here. I’ll move out of the damn dorm if I need to, but he can’t just disappear from my life.

That isn’t what I wanted.

I smack Atlas on the shoulder as I move past him and groan to find Rascal still standing there with his arms crossed and brows raised.

“What are you doing?” he asks.

I sling my bag over my shoulder and motion behind him. “Going to tell Morales that he’s an idiot.”

“Alike things attract together.” Rascal bangs his knuckles together. “You got a follow up or going to make a six hour drive to tell him how stupid he is and then walk away again?”

The hairs on my neck start to prickle.

Nothing has changed.

Except… maybe it has.

I miss him.

Can a handful of pills and some distance really change things for me?

I don’t know. But I need to see him.

I need to face what we were—what we could be—with the clear head I couldn’t in the thick of things.

“It’s nothing that can’t be fixed, you know,” Rascal says, stepping aside to his open dorm room. “If you want him, all you have to do is tell him.”

“This is the end for now, sweetheart.”

For now.

“I’m about to do something really brave and really stupid.”
