“Tell me about it. I want a few sleep through the nights.”

“She sleeps just fine when I'm there.”

“I mean me!” Mia tossed her purse on the corner kitchen table, then used her toes to push her flats off while turning her attention toward the mail in her hand.

Lexi laughed and followed closely with similar movements, heading over to the fridge for a drink. She grabbed Mia one as well. “You were spoiled with Xander. You know, it's how they get you to do it again by giving you the perfect one first. Then the second one never lets you sleep ever again.”

“It's not so much the sleep.” Mia took the bottle from Lexi, picking up her phone to send what Lexi assumed was his mandatory, butterfly check-in with her dominant husband-to-be.

“Oh yeah?” Lexi ribbed. She walked over to the table under the window, picking up the mail Mia had set aside for the business and leafing through it.

“Yes. It's the sex. It's hard to have sex with a baby in the bed .”

“If I remember fifth grade correctly, it's the sex that got the baby in the bed to begin with.”

Mia snorted, shaking her head. “Smart ass.”

“Baby in the room, there will be no more A-S-S talk.” Melody, their friend and Mia's babysitter, plus overall right-hand wonder woman entered the kitchen with a babbling, drooling Penelope on her hip.

“LA! LAAAH-LA!” Joy bubbled from the infant's lips, waving her chubby arms around in excitement. Lexi stopped what she was doing and quickly relieved Mel of the animated baby.

“Can we stop talking about me and my nearly snuffed-out love life?”

Lexi laughed, shaking her head.

“We can focus on yours instead,” Mia taunted, pressing her lips together and batting her lashes at Lexi innocently.

“Keep it up, I’ll tell Nolan you had the mouth of a sailor all through the tasting with Ella.”

“Brat! Tattletale, you wouldn’t!”

“I think I counted six or seven fa-ducks , there might have been some shirt-balls in there too…” Lexi corrected her words, mindful of the infant pulling on her necklace.

“I’ll never bake for you again.”

She looked at Penelope with wide eyes and a raised brow. “You’re an out-right liar!” Lexi gasped, dramatically placing her hand over her chest as if the words wounded her. “You’d never do that to me.”

“True. But you rat me out, I’ll make sure Nolan shows Noah a few more knots for a fun time.”

“You are a brat. Last time the No-No twins hung out, Nolan showed Noah knots; I was strung up and edged while Noah worked.” He had given her the best orgasms and bruises that weekend.

Mia shook her head mockingly, sticking her tongue out at Lexi.

They always had the best time together.

Lexi planted kisses over Penny’s face, eliciting giggles from her tiny captive. “Who’s my silly girl?” She blew a raspberry against the skin between her neck and shoulder. Penelope babbled to herself as Mel retrieved her and headed toward the living room, leaving them to work.

After a pause, Lexi reached over and plucked a strawberry tart from the table before refreshing her coffee. “You look happy.”

“I am,” Mia gushed, shifting in her seat and grabbing another scone. “Even if that means I’m sitting down with a sore ass.”

“He soothes your anxiety.”

Mia blushed, knowing the truth of Lexi's words. “He does. He really does.” She happily sighed and nodded. “He is all I ever needed. Even the bits I didn't know we're missing, he fills so well.” She furrowed her brow and teasingly shook her finger at Lexi. “Don’t tell him that. He’ll never let me hear the end of it.”

“Or your butt for that matter,” Lexi teased with a grin. “He loves you. I’m happy for you.”

“It’s one of the things I’ve never had to question.” Mia shrugged, her face flushed with love.
