“That would be great. I don’t want to break down in the middle of the road. Again.”

Wes whispered in Mel’s ear, “Are you okay out here? I need to get some things settled in the workshop.” She nodded as he placed her on the seat and slid out.

“Leaving us already, Wes?” Nolan asked.

“There’s always work to be done.”

“I hear that. See ya later.” Wes nodded as he turned toward his workroom.

Colton brought several drinks to the table for everyone. Mia tried to grab a coke but Nolan intercepted her hand.

“Hey! This baby is craving coke,” she whined.

“You know very well that I’m not going to let you drink a caffeinated drink, butterfly.” Nolan chuckled, kissing her forehead.

“Water or Sprite?”

“Sprite,” she grumbled. Laughter broke out around the table at their cute exchanges. “Can I at least get a cherry, please?”

“Mia you have to take care of that little baby factory you have going on there,” Julia agreed.

Nolan kissed her below her ear. “I love it when my wife is pregnant.” He rubbed her belly as he gazed into her eyes. “Especially when she can't get enough of my c-.”

“Don’t you finish that sentence Nolan Lockhart.” Mia pointed her finger into his chest as he chuckled.

“What? They know how insatiable you get, plus I’m a boob man.” Nolan gave her a wink.

“You all laugh now. Just wait ‘til it happens to any one of you.” Mia pointed out. The girls’ faces flamed from being called out. “More for you to spoil, I know, Lex.”

Melody cleared her throat, looking away. She knew pregnancy wasn’t in the cards for her with Wes and she was okay with that. Although, it still made it uncomfortable to talk about with them. She doubted they knew about his surgery. It wasn’t her place to tell his business.

“How is it you got married before me?” Mia teased Lexi.

“Because if I could do it, so could you.”

“It’s a wonder how I found two people in the world who understand me.”

“We share the load.” Lexi smirked.

Mia rolled her eyes. “Okay okay, we need to get some work done while we’re here, not just catching up. I finally think we came up with a name for the event. What do we think about Never Surrender - A charity auction in loving memory?”

Everyone voiced how they loved the name and how it really fit with the theme.

“Maybe you will win a honeymoon package to get Nolan off his ass and marry you already.” Lexi giggled but continued on with what she was going to say.

“I was thinking that we could make star decorations to hang around the club with ‘A donation in memory of…” on them. Guests could fill them out when they come in.” Lexi mentioned as she scribbled something down in her notebook.

“Oh, that would be a great way to show how cancer affects us all,” Mia remarked.

Melody’s focus shifted away as they continued to chatter. Talking about cancer made her tummy clench. She already didn’t feel like conversing today but adding that subject made her want to bolt.

The noise that everyone was making was causing her fists to tighten under the table. She loved these people but there were some times when she needed quiet time. She needed to calm the storm that was beginning to rage inside her.

She excused herself from the table and went looking for the only person that could calm her heart.

Anxiously, Melody chewed her bottom lip, her arms crossed over her chest as she padded barefoot down the hall, and turned left at the fork in the hallway.

She B-lined to Wes’ workshop, hoping he wasn’t too busy to help her. She turned the knob to the room, closed her eyes, and inhaled deeply. His scent enveloped her.
