Estelle and Finn grunted.

‘If you make any more noises like that, my wife will turn you into sausages,’ Jack said with a grin. ‘The pair of you are worse than Ham Solo and Chewbaccon.’

Estelle snorted with laughter.

‘Do you see it now?’ Jack asked Eveline. ‘It’s like we’re back in the pigpen.’

‘Rude!’ Estelle said, still laughing. She turned to Finn. ‘Speaking of porking, are you and Elyse playing hide the chipolata?’

Finn’s jaw dropped. ‘What? No! Why would you think that?’

‘Because I’m convinced she’s sneaking out at night.’

‘And a chipolata? Fuck off. I’m packing a jumbo.’

Jack cleared his throat.

Finn glanced at Eveline. ‘Sorry. It’s Stelle’s fault. She started it.’

Eveline’s eyes were sparkling. ‘Don’t mind me. This is wonderful entertainment.’

Finn turned back to Estelle. ‘I haven’t seen Elyse since quiz night. Okay?’

She nodded. Where was Elyse going?

James?

Shut up! Just shut up!

Pulling her phone from her pocket, she checked her messages.

Elyse: What time are you coming home? Do you need dinner?

Estelle glanced across the stage. If she decided to have a drink, then she could always stay the night here.

Estelle: I’m at Foxbrooke Manor with my family. I’ll probably sleep here

Elyse: Okay, have fun x

Estelle pocketed her phone. She needed to let worries about Elyse and James go for one evening and enjoy spending time with the people closest to her.

Just before half-past nine, the sun set, but it was still light enough to see. Estelle was warm and happy, but also utterly exhausted. The time out had made her pause, and her body was now screaming at her for sleep.

James had sloped off earlier, but only a very tiny part of her was worried about him being with Elyse. Estelle was tired of her mind projecting images that made her unhappy. She wanted to drift into a dreamless sleep where she could let everything go.

Calling Chester and Joy, she said her thanks and goodbyes, got in the Defender and drove back to the livery.

Elyse’s car wasn’t there.

Entering the house, she put the dogs in their crate and checked Elyse’s room. Empty. In the bathroom, her wash bag and toothbrush were also nowhere to be seen.

Let it go!

Estelle brushed her teeth, had a quick shower, and got into bed. For the first time in weeks she had the house to herself, and despite being shattered, her mind and body were wired. Throwing back the covers, she went to find her vibrator. Maybe that would take the edge off.

Taking it out, she compared it to James. BOB may have had multiple speeds, but he was not attached to the hottest man she’d ever known, and certainly didn’t have his wicked tongue.

Before she could second guess herself, she grabbed her phone, ran down the stairs and took her car keys off the hook by the front door.
