Where was Elyse? And who the fuck was in her home?

There was the sound of heavy footfall, then a wall of muscle and tattoos came out the front door carrying two suitcases.

‘Ryan?’ she spluttered.

‘Oh, hey Stelle. First day of the festival go okay?’

She stood with her mouth open as Ryan opened the tailgate of his truck and put the suitcases inside.

‘What are you doing?’

‘Moving Elyse out, then going back to fence duty.’

‘Elyse?’

There was a broad smile on his bearded face. ‘Yeah, I persuaded her to move in. Didn’t she tell you?’

‘Er…?’

Ryan may have been six foot six and an amateur power-lifting champion, but his smile suddenly turned sheepish. ‘I gave her my number at that quiz night you brought her to. Then we got to know each other when she was away in China. We’ve been, er…’ He rubbed the back of his neck. ‘And now she’s moving in.’

‘Oh.’

Ryan lowered his voice. ‘She didn’t know how to tell you. She’s embarrassed.’

‘By you?’

‘Me?’ He chuckled. ‘Nah, she said she hadn’t told you the truth about James and felt really bad because you’d been so nice.’

‘Yeah, “nice” is always the word that springs to mind when people think of me,’ she replied sarcastically.

Ryan let out a belly laugh. ‘You’re solid, Stelle. Nothing wrong with you.’

‘Is she inside?’

‘Yep, just packing up the rest of her stuff. I’ve cleaned her room and vacuumed, so it’s not left in a mess.’

‘You vacuumed?’

‘Yeah. And you should see my place now. It’s spotless. I’ve even got flowers and shit for her.’

‘Rose petals on the bed?’

Ryan lowered his head, but Estelle could still see him blush.

‘Holy shit, Ryan! You’re in love.’

He nodded, then brought his gaze back up to meet hers. ‘She’s the one for me.’

‘Wow.’ Estelle was side-swiped. ‘You do know she’s not the most domesticated?’

‘Don’t care. Anyway, I love cooking and I’m a tidy bloke. It’s going to be great.’

‘Well, congratulations. Does anyone else know?’

‘I told Finn and Tommy tonight when I left them at the fence.’

‘The fence? What are you talking about?’
