‘Roger, roger, jammy dodger!’ Arthur roared.

Estelle squinted out into the night at two bobbing lights. What were they doing?

Suddenly there was a whoosh, and a firework took off into the air. Followed by another, then another.

She laughed with delight, then turned to find James by her side. Reaching out her hand, he caught it, pulling her body flush with his.

‘You’re staying,’ she whispered, heat flooding through her.

He nodded. ‘I thought I still wanted a life in London, but I don’t. I want to be with you. Wherever you are.’

‘Did you sell the Ferrari to pay the staff?’

‘Yes.’

‘Oh, James…’

‘It’s just a car.’

‘But you loved it.’

He smiled, his face illuminated by the fireworks. ‘I loved it, but I wasn’t in love with it. I’m in love with you.’

She sucked in a breath.

‘I’ve always wanted to fall in love, and now I have. And just like you, love is awe-inspiring, incredible, and slightly terrifying. But when it comes to the job of being your boyfriend, I’m going to nail it.’

Her eyebrow raised with her heartbeat. ‘Fancy nailing anything else?’

His gaze darkened and he shifted his hips, pressing his hard length against her.

‘I’ll take that as a yes, then…’ Estelle glanced around. They were at the back of the stage. Everyone else was facing away, watching the fireworks. ‘Could we just leave?’

James took her hand and led her backstage. ‘Where’s your car?’

‘Blocked in by Finn’s truck. Should I go back and get him?’

‘No, we’ll take mine. It’s in the car park in front of the gates.’

Jogging down the steps behind the stage, they strode towards the manor.

‘You replaced the Ferrari with a Kangoo?’

James’s grip on her hand tightened. ‘It was a high-pressure bargaining situation and I got played at the last minute.’

Estelle snorted with laughter.

‘But the joke’s going to be on Tony. Because I’m going to reclaim pink as a masculine colour, just like in the late nineteenth century, and use my extensive knowledge of chemistry to create a clean and renewable source of energy from fairy dust.’

‘And change your name to Barb?’

He pulled a face. ‘I’m not going that far. One name change in a lifetime is enough. Although… I’m up for amending my surname again.’

Butterflies fluttered in her tummy. ‘Oh? What to?’

‘I’m not sure,’ he replied casually. ‘But I think Hunter-Foxbrooke has a nice ring to it. What do you think?’

‘Oh, my god, did you talk to Finn?’
