Seth tucked her hair behind her ear. “I hated every second you were away from me.”

She’d hated it too. “I’ve never wanted anyone more.” She licked her lips. “You’re the first person who ever made me want to choose myself, to put myself first.”

“You’ve done anything but that.”

“Before you, I shopped for comfort and for work. I can’t remember the last time I wanted something to look pretty. Before you, I’ve fought for everyone but myself.”

“You’re still doing that.”

“I was. I left because I wanted to protect you and Oliver, but I turned around because I wanted to fight for my happiness. I love you, Seth. And I want to be with you.”

“Marry me.” He winced.

Clary laughed softly. “Have you changed your mind?”

“I kept reminding myself that I couldn’t ask. I don’t want you to feel you owe me. I don’t want you to agree because you think you need to make it up to me.”

“What if I want to say yes because I hated every second I was away from you? Because for the first time in my life, I don’t care how crazy a decision this will be? I want to choose my happiness.”

“Are you saying yes?”

“Yes.”

“No,” he said.

She frowned.

“I need to do this right.” Seth grinned. “We started out all wrong. I want to do this right. You won’t change your mind, will you?”

“Maybe.”

He got down on one knee. “Clary Fiore, will you marry me?”

She drew a breath through her nose and pretended to reconsider his question, then laughed when his eyes narrowed. “Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you.”

Seth knocked on Elton’s door and waited. Halfway through the movie they were watching on the flat-screen TV that Oliver had brought over, Clary had fallen asleep in his room, so he took the chance to slip out and speak with his brothers.

Elton’s brows rose when he saw Seth. “I wasn’t expecting you.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have laid hands on you.”

“I didn’t even snitch on you to Clary about that.” Elton shrugged. “I’m sorry I was so rude to her.”

Seth nodded.

“Do you want to see what she got me for Christmas? I think I got the best present of all of you.”

Seth arched a brow, and Elton stepped into the room.

He walked over to the desk and picked up a photo frame. The photos in the frame changed every couple of seconds. They were all photos of them laughing together. “We spent so much time worrying about what Holly would do or was doing that I forgot we didn’t have to just have each other’s back in times of trouble. We could have fun and laugh together too.”

Elton put the photo frame back down.

“Are we okay?”

His brother nodded. “Will you thank Clary for me?”
