Page 72 of It Ends With A Yes

“Okay.” She beamed.

Seth sat up straight and was about to get up when he hesitated. He leaned back on the pillows and turned on his side so he could face her. “I know I probably am nagging too much, but are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yes.”

He looked right into her eyes, and for a while, they remained that way. There was nothing to say. He was sure she could see it all in his eyes, see how much she’d come to matter to him, see how much he loved her.

He didn’t open his mouth because he knew what he would say. He would ask her, in all seriousness, to marry him.

Seth didn’t want to waste another second of their lives, didn’t just want her to be his girlfriend or even his fiancée. He wanted her to be his wife.

He wanted to tie her to him in every way. Not to control her, but he wanted her to be in his life, for everyone to know she belonged to him. As he belonged to her—wholeheartedly.

But it would have to be her choice, and he wouldn’t pressure her into it.

So, in the end, he settled on giving her a peck on the lips. “You make me so incredibly happy. I want you to know that.”

“You make me so incredibly happy too.”

He grinned. “I’ll go grab the projector.”

Since her chat with Holly, Clary’s thoughts had been all over the place.

Leave Seth, or I’ll release the evidence of Olly’s murder.

She’d considered just ignoring Holly. After all, Holly was trapped within the walls of the wellness center. Uncle David was still in San Francisco, following up on how Holly had gotten Internet access when she wasn’t allowed to have it.

Whoever was helping her wouldn’t be able to do so anymore. If not now, then soon.

But was that enough?

Could Clary risk it?

She bounced between yes and no, probably about a thousand times a day, or perhaps an hour. She couldn’t be sure.

But this morning, she’d woken up and decided that she wanted to have a date with Seth. She wanted to spend some time with just Seth. She’d thought a picnic would be nice, but it was winter.

Still, Seth delivered.

Looking up at the white canopy, she wondered if perhaps she should honestly tell Seth what had happened. Perhaps his brilliant mind could come up with a solution that could make everything all right.

Clary sighed. “You can’t,” she said to herself.

It would only end up forcing him to choose. And Clary couldn’t make him do that. She couldn’t imagine what it would do to him.

She cracked a smile when Seth came back in with the black duffle bag that held his projector. She watched him set it up, loving the laid-back smile he was wearing.

Could she credit herself for putting that smile on his face?

“Why are you staring at me?” Seth asked.

“I think you’re incredibly dashing when you’re working on something.” Be it when he was dealing with the hacker, when he was showing her around Movement, or when he was setting up the projector.

His eyes narrowed.

“I’m not teasing you.”
