“The mansion is fully furnished. We’d just need to move the tree and the food. No holes in any of the floors.”

“It isn’t me you have to convince.”

“So you’d come?”

“I don’t want you or Oliver in this apartment. I don’t even want Aldric to come back since he’s right above me,” he said. “I suppose the building will hold up, but …” He folded his arms across his chest. “I was wondering what to do until I can find a place to rent.”

“I’ll rent you a place.”

Seth arched a brow and strode toward her. “You’re charging me rent?”

“Of course.”

He crowded her back against the door frame.

She realized then that perhaps Grandma Moretti was right. Frivolous romantic notions had gotten into her head, because she’d always thought it incredibly hot when the main character in movies or TV shows did this.

Childish and naive, perhaps.

But she allowed herself to just enjoy the moment. She’d had a rough day.

With their eyes locked, Clary had to tip her head back as Seth moved closer.

He rested his arm above her. “The last time I saved your life, I got a kiss.”

Her lips curled back, and she rolled onto the balls of her feet to give him a peck on the lips.

“Surely I deserve more this time.” He wrapped his arm around her, keeping her from dropping back to the floor. “It’s already the second time. You probably have to marry me.”

She scowled. “It will take at least five more times before I have to say yes.”

“And you say you’re not an adrenaline junkie.” He tucked her hair behind her ear, then leaned forward to give her a peck on the nose. “I’ll need to talk to the rest of them.” He kissed her on the lips. “Do you want to join me?”

What? She didn’t hear anything he said.

She put a hand on his chest when he leaned forward again. “Why are you always distracting me while we’re having a conversation?”

He laughed softly, the deep bass of it vibrating through her hand.

“Do you want to come talk to my brothers with me?”

She drew a breath through her nose, giving her brain a moment to reset. “Would it be better if you talked to them on your own?”

He shrugged. “I’m sure you’ve noticed they all seem to have hearing issues. Why hasn’t your Grandma Moretti or Mr. E showed up?”

“I told them to stay with Hugh. You were with me anyway, and I had so much to do.”

“Work. Work. Work. That’s always her first priority.”

Clary tipped to the side and peered out onto the hallway. “There she is.”

Oliver was right beside Grandma Moretti, holding bags of what she assumed was dinner. “I saw them downstairs.”

Clary opened her arms and Grandma Moretti embraced her.

“Is it true?” Grandma Moretti asked.

Clary arched a brow.
