“Is she hot?” Aldric asked.

Clary’s brows puckered again.

“Stay away from her,” Seth said.

“Who? Andrea or Clary?”

Seth shot Aldric another glare.

“You’re the one who wanted me to join you guys.” Aldric sat behind Clary, then tapped on her shoulder and drew a circle in the air.

Clary swiveled around to face him.

“What do you see in him anyway?” Aldric asked. “He’s such a bore.”

Seth opened his mouth, but Clary answered before he did.

“He makes Star Wars hands. How could he be a bore?” Clary shook her head. “Go put away your stuff, then come back for dinner.”

“You ordered my dinner?”

Seth shook his head and sat next to Clary. “I’ll see if I can add to the order.”

Clary waved it off. “I’m sure there will be more than enough food, or you can have mine if there isn’t enough.”

Seth’s head snapped toward her.

“I can ask Andrea to pick up something on the way.”

“It’s all right. I’ll handle it.”

“I still don’t like you,” Aldric said.

Seth sighed.

“Noted.” Clary lips curled, and Seth had to marvel at her strength. “I’ll see in you a while.” She spun back toward the tree.

“What’s this?” Oliver turned the bottle in his hand. “Christmas tree spray? Make your house smell like you have a real Christmas tree.” He gave it several squirts, shooting one toward Aldric.

Aldric waved off the mist and stood. He took another moment to just stare at Clary, and Seth once again wished he’d developed a device to read minds.

With a shake of his head, Aldric headed off without another word.

Clary had leaned away from the mist too, pressing her back against Seth.

Seth reached over and played with the ends of her hair that almost touched his legs. He twirled the silky hair around his index finger, then gave it a light tug, wondering if she could feel it.

She looked back over her shoulder. “Are you pulling my hair?”

“It’s so long.”

“Too long. I should get it cut.”

He shook his head. “I like it.”

“I’m still here,” Oliver said.

Clary turned her attention to Oliver. “If Aldric doesn’t choose a color, we’ll go with the silver. I like that too.”
