“Aren’t you going to ask me which I like?”

She leaned back again, further back than before. This time, she rested against his shoulder. “Which do you like?”

He didn’t really care, but he liked exactly where Clary was. He shifted one of his legs and looped an arm around her waist so he could pull her closer. “I’ll think about it.”

Seth had been adopted by Holly when he was four. He wasn’t sure how long it had taken, but he hated people touching him—or even coming close to him—back when he was still in her care. And he had been that way ever since.

He couldn’t remember the last time anyone had held him or that he’d embraced someone. He’d never desired to be close to anyone, much less wanted to wrap his arms around anyone.

But the few short seconds holding Clary had changed everything.

He didn’t want to let her go.

If it were up to him, he would have told his brother to leave so he could keep Clary next to him.

“How did you know Aldric was wearing contacts?” Oliver asked.

Clary tried to sit up, but Seth refused to let her go.

“You all have green eyes,” she said, then fully rested back against him.

Oliver dropped his gaze. “Like Holly.”

“Gray eyes look edgy. It goes with his blond hair.”

Oliver cracked a smile. “I’ll go finish up my game,” he said, glancing over at Seth. “Let me know when the food’s here.”

Seth wrapped his other arm around Clary.

“Are you going to trap me here until the food arrives?”

“Maybe.” He shifted the remaining leg he had folded between them so she could rest her entire back against him.

“Oliver said you used to look as if you were being electrocuted when you had to shake hands with someone.”

“My brothers talk a lot.”

Clary chuckled.

“Are you okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You don’t have to be so nice to them,” he said.

“They’re your brothers.” She turned her head so that her face nestled into the hollow of his throat.

Her soft, warm breath brushed his neck.

Seth rested his cheek against her hair and closed his eyes. As if her breath held magical properties, he felt himself relaxing and just enjoying having her so comfortably nestled against him.

Could he just sit here like this for the rest of the night?

“Don’t fight with them because of me,” she continued.

Seth didn’t want to talk about his brothers anymore. He just wanted to sit here with her and enjoy having the place to themselves.

But as much as he wanted to do that, his brothers were a part of his life. With Clary here, it would be impossible to avoid them. “Elton and Aldric are … stubborn.”
