All that was in his mind was the gorgeous woman standing there in the room, her fair skin glowing brighter than the morning sun streaming in through the window.

Another voice played in his mind.

This time, it was Clary’s. Show me how to love like you have loved me.

Was that what gave her the strength to extend her graciousness to him? To see beyond the mess of who he was?

“I’m sorry.” She cleared her throat and removed her earphones. “I didn’t know you were there.”

He drew a deep breath through his nose.

“I just needed to recharge before starting my day,” she continued when he didn’t say a word.

“Am I disturbing you?”

She laughed softly, a nervous chuckle. “Was I disturbing you?”

“Not at all.” He waved a hand. “Go ahead. Don’t mind me.” He was quite content to wait.

She put the earphones back into a case with a pale pink silicon cover, then walked to him. “I’m done.”

“You sounded lovely.”

She stared at him for a moment, then tipped her head to the side as her brows puckered.

“What?” Seth asked.

“Aren’t you going to make some snide remarks about how delusional I am? Or some comments about my imaginary friend?”

“I like hearing you sing.”

Her smile faded, and her expression grew serious. “Are you okay?”

“Is it so weird for me to give you a compliment?”

“It isn’t that.” Her worried gaze roamed across his face. “I don’t know.” She lifted her hand, moved it an inch in front of his chest, and held it there for him to see before actually resting her hand on him.

“I’m sorry,” he said.

“For what?”

“That you need to do this, that—”

“Stop,” she said sternly. “You don’t owe me an apology for that.”

Show me how to love like you have loved me. Seth smiled at her, then cupped her face in his hand to tug her closer. “I’m sure God is very proud of you.”

She blinked once as her eyes bore into his. With another blink, her lips curled. “I know. I’m sure He carries a photo of me in his pocket to show off to His angels all the time.”

Seth laughed again. “You’re so …”

“Weird?”

“Amazing.” He would like to show her off to everyone too. “Ready to go?”

She hurried into her room to grab her bags. “I’ve already texted Grandma Moretti, told her I’ll be dropping by for lunch.”

Seth nodded and took her bags from her. “I’ll pick you up.”
