She smiled and nodded.
Tugging her closer, he said, “So since Ressler might still be alive …”
She chuckled. “You’re using that to get me to stay?”
Clary had already stayed here last night. She’d intended to head back to the Eolenfeld mansion she’d been staying in, but he’d convinced her to stay one night. Then he’d taken her out and she hadn’t had time to pack.
It wouldn’t take her long to do that, but she hadn’t actually brought it up.
So Seth didn’t either. “It isn’t safe.”
“I’d consider staying if …”
He would have been worried if her lips hadn’t curled back mischievously. “The Christmas tree and ‘Jesus loves you’ poster?”
She laughed. “I was going to ask for a good oven in the empty apartment.”
It seemed she was determined to move into the empty apartment instead of staying here with him. He would prefer she stayed in his apartment. Not only because he wanted her close.
Okay. Who was he kidding?
It was exactly because of that.
But if she felt more comfortable in a separate apartment, then so be it.
“But a Christmas tree and the poster are good too,” she said.
“You get all three if you promise you won’t return the clothes I bought.”
Her eyes slitted. “They cost thousands, Seth. I saw the receipt even though you tried to be sneaky about it.”
He grinned and cupped her face. “I promise I can afford it.”
She folded her arms across her chest. “How far into our relationship do I get a limitless credit card? I already have one from Mr. E.” She flicked her brows up twice.
“You can take mine now.”
She chuckled and shook her head.
“Stay another night.” He tipped his head toward her room. “Here.”
“Again, that depends.”
“On how well I feed you?”
She beamed. “Exactly.”
“Is there anything you don’t eat?”
“Italian food, because I’m a way better chef than a lot of Italian restaurants out there.” Her smile grew wider as he laughed.
“Okay.”
“You’re not going to order Italian food just to annoy me, are you?”
“Not tonight.”
She glanced over her shoulder. “I think my phone’s ringing,” she said and turned into her room.
