I smiled and thought about Rome becoming a father as a woman who went by Sparkle squeezed her breasts together, making her nipples look like big eyes, and she asked me if I wanted to suck her tits dry.
“Are you lactating?” I asked.
The three words slipped out of my mouth before my brain could remind me that we were all out at a strip club, celebrating Rome’s upcoming fatherhood journey.
Sparkle stiffened her back and stepped back from me.
I looked to my right and Rome sat there, his jaw almost on the floor.
After a few awkward seconds, he leaned closer to me.
“Did you ask this beautiful woman if she’s lactating?”
“She said… I was… I was thinking about Emily.”
“My wife?” Rome asked.
“Yes,” I said. “I was thinking about her being pregnant. And her, you know, body changes and all that.”
Rome casually lifted some money pinched between his pointer and middle fingers.
He smiled at Sparkle.
“I’m sorry about this guy,” he said to her.
Sparkle took the money and walked away.
Rome then grabbed my shirt and showed me his teeth. “You’re thinking about my wife’s tits? While staring at another woman’s tits?”
“Not the way you’re thinking,” I said.
“Oh? Explain it.”
“I just did. Emily is pregnant. We’re here celebrating it. I guess. By the way, why are you at a strip club when your wife is home pregnant?”
“Here we go,” Rome said. “The good guy giving his speech now.”
“What’s the problem here?” Joe asked as he stepped up to us, holding a drink, a scowl on his face.
“This is what we’ve become?” Rome asked as he stood up. “We can’t even go out and have fun? Atlas isn’t even here. He’s home… watching his kid?”
“Yeah,” I said. “Because Hazel wanted to have a night out. Atlas is a good man and a good dad.”
“Shut up, Henry,” Rome growled.
“Seb and April are off on a romantic weekend,” I said.
“Jago is here,” Rome said. “Right? Where is he?”
“Taking a piss,” Joe said.
“What about you?” Rome asked Joe. “Are you having fun? Finding any beauties to take in the back?”
All Joe had to do was give Rome a certain look that made Rome step back.
