Joe looked at me but didn’t say or do a thing.

He turned and wandered over to the bar where he took a seat.

Rome looked sad.

Crushed.

Deflated.

I slowly stood up and wrapped my arm around him.

“Emily is good with this?” I asked.

“Of course she is. She knows how this all goes. It’s all for fun. I’m not looking to mess around. I’m just looking to have some fun. I’m going to be a father, Henry. I know my life is changing by the second. And I know that’s how it goes for all of us. And, hey, maybe I wanted to have a night out and live vicariously through your dick.”

I laughed. “There’s the real reason.”

“Come on, Henry. Look at Sparkle over there. You get her alone and you’ll have her real name in a second. Or just leave her as Sparkle. Whatever works for you. She’s been eyeing you up from the second you walked in. And you just asked her if her tits are full of milk.”

I sighed. “Well, isn’t that a good thing? She’s full… you know?”

“Man, you are something else. You really don’t get how women think. There’s a difference between big tits and full of milk tits. Full of milk means full of something else. You know?”

“No.”

“She thinks you think she’s… too big. You know what I mean?”

“Her?” I asked. “Sparkle? She’s perfect. Her chest and her hips and everything together? Are you kidding me right now? She’s beautiful.”

“Why are you telling me this?” Rome asked. “Go, get up on that stage and tell her.”

“You can’t go up on stage,” I said. “Security will throw you out.”

“That’s for normal people. We’re sports celebs. We do what we want. Want to see?”

Rome took off for the stage and a second later he climbed up onto it.

Just as I predicted, security quickly began to make their move.

Then just as Rome predicted, they realized who he was and they gave him some space.

Rome walked right up to Sparkle and whispered something to her.

She seemed surprised for a second and then she looked right at me.

So did Rome.

Rome then extended his right hand, guiding the way for Sparkle.

She began to walk across the stage, Rome right next to her, both of them staring at me.

Oh, Rome, what the hell did you do?

“Is it true what he said?” Sparkle whispered into my ear.

She smelled like vanilla, cigarette smoke, and cherries.

“I’m not sure what Rome said to you,” I whispered back. “He’s been known to tell a lie here and there.”
