I could not stop thinking about Sage.

Morning. Noon. Night.

It didn’t matter.

If Sage called me and said we have to hide a body I would get boots, a shovel, and do all her evil biddings and not think twice about it.

“If you’re looking to get something good out of him, now is the time,” I said. “I’ve got him good and riled up. He’ll melt for you.”

“He always melts for me,” Sage said.

She tucked her hands under her chin and began to blink really fast, slightly looking up. I felt like someone had taken a knife to my chest watching her like that. Being sweet, cute, and just…

“That’s not true,” she said with a laugh. “He’s always a grump. But I think you might be on to something, Henry. You get him mad and then I swoop in and have him look at me and like me more than you. Sorry.”

I laughed. “Don’t be sorry.”

“We’re a team,” she said. “I owe you, Henry. Name your price.”

One kiss.

“I’ll have to think about it,” I said. “Unless you put me on the spot right now. Make me choose something right now.”

“Maybe I will,” Sage said in an almost whisper.

In my mind, she gripped the edge of the boards and leaned forward.

In my mind, I tossed my stick to the ice and touched her arms, my hands moving up to her face.

“What’s taking so long?”

The third voice was followed by the person who owned the voice.

Keith gave a nod to me, then went right for Sage.

His hands touched her arms. His hands touched her sides. His lips moved down to hers. And she jumped to her toes to kiss him.

“We have to get out of here,” Keith said. “Place is weird when it’s empty. How the hell did you get in here anyway?”

“I have my secrets,” Sage whispered.

She then looked at me.

She did the lower right side of her lip nibbling thing too.

“Henry,” Keith said. “Do you do anything else besides play hockey?”

“Not really,” I said.

“You have to get yourself a girlfriend. Seriously. There are way better things than hockey, my friend.”

Keith wiggled his eyebrows.

My stomach churned like rotted sewage at the thought of Keith and Sage…

“Don’t practice too hard,” Sage said to me. “You know how the grumpy old man gets. Tire yourself out now and it’ll be hell to pay tomorrow.”

“But that would benefit you, right?” I asked.
