Travis looked at me.

He knew better than to talk back to me right then and there in front of Henry.

He did curl his lip.

Just to get that little act of defiance in.

I let Travis sulk while I closed in on Henry.

Each step made me ponder my next move.

Hug him? Kiss him? Throw my arms around him and jump up into his arms?

The latter two could not happen. Not in front of my son.

But a hug?

Sure.

Two friends hugging.

We reached for each other at the same time.

Henry’s hands were totally PG with the hug, even though I could tell he wanted to touch skin. Or just take handfuls of my ass over my jeans and squeeze.

His skin smelled like the ocean, the sun, some sweat, with a hint of cologne.

Instant signals were sent throughout my body, all converging to one very specific spot.

I broke the hug and stepped back. “Are you sure about this, Henry?”

“Positive,” he said. “No turning back now, Sage.”

“I mean, if we’re going to be in the way…”

Henry looked back at the large house and laughed. “Yeah, I don’t know how I’m going to fit you both in there.”

I pushed at his left shoulder. “Shut up. You know what I mean.”

“Let’s go inside. Let me get you a drink.”

“Trying to get me drunk already?”

“Glass of water works too.”

“Water,” I said. “If this is a vacation, no water is necessary.”

Henry smirked. I sensed a little sadness on his face. As though he had the fantasy that I was moving in with him…

“Mom, how many bags do we have here?” Travis called out.

“Staying for a while, honey?” Henry whispered to me.

I gasped.

We did not set a specific timeframe on things…

Henry walked by me, leaving me almost feeling starstruck.
