“Stupid play,” Atlas growled.

Seb was right there, nudging Jago out of the way. He got the puck and sent it back to Rome who had the net wide open for days.

Joe had a chance to slam Seb into the boards but he held back.

“That was awful,” Atlas called out. “What the fuck do you call that? Huh? That’s not a real game play!”

I turned my head for a second and I saw Sage and Travis.

“Guys,” I called out. “Kid is here. Keep the language down a notch.”

“It’s hockey,” Jago said as he stood with his mask up on his head. “You know how this game is.”

Fair.

I skated over to Sage and Travis.

Again, all I wanted to do was kiss Sage.

Grab her. Kiss her. Love her.

“Hey, kid,” I said to Travis. “Ready to skate?”

“Um…”

“Henry,” Sage said.

“What?” I asked. “Did you think I invited the kid here to just watch? Hell no.”

“I’m in,” Travis said. “I can skate.”

“You can’t skate,” Sage said.

“Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mom,” Travis threw back at her.

I leaned toward Sage. “I promise nothing will happen.”

“You said that about the quad too, Henry.”

“And nothing happened,” I said. “Just a quick tumble.”

“A tumble,” Sage said, rolling her eyes. She then looked surprised. “You have company behind you, Henry.”

I turned my head just in time for the guys to show up.

“Where’s this freak athlete I keep hearing about?” Joe asked in his deep voice.

He towered over Travis and Travis looked up at him.

“Think you can check me into the boards?” Joe asked.

“I think I can do anything I feel like,” Travis said.

“Kid’s got balls,” Joe said.

“Joe,” I said.

“Right. Sorry. Kid’s got some guts…”
