“No way,” I said.
We stood next to each other and watched the video. Which included sound.
We laughed.
We hugged.
“Henry,” Sage said as I picked her up. “I want you to know I love you.”
“I know you do, honey. I love you too. And I want this life with you.”
“You don’t have to…”
“You protecting him the way you are just shows how much of a good mother you are. And that alone makes me want to offer you the rest of my life. You deserve it. Let me take care of you. Let me take care of Travis.”
“That beach house,” she said.
“What about it?”
“Can you rent that again?”
I smiled. “Anytime you want it. Or you can let me spoil you and I’ll just buy a house on the beach.”
“Maybe. Someday. Not today though.”
“Oh, definitely not today,” I said. “We have much bigger plans than that.”
“We do?”
I brushed my lips against her neck. Then up to her ear.
It was time for me to speak the most important words of my life.
