I thought if they met it would help me solidify my feelings for Tad… so stupid.

Then to make matters worse, Tad started joking around about me and him being married. Not getting married… but being married. Acting as though we were already married.

Hell could freeze over thirty times before something like that would ever happen.

“Mom? I’m starving over here?”

I turned my head and Travis clutched his stomach and fell against the fridge.

He slowly stuck his tongue out and dropped down to his butt, faking his own death from starvation.

“When was the last time you ate?” I asked.

“Over two hours ago,” Travis said.

“You poor thing. Two whole hours without food? I can’t even imagine the suffering you’re going through.”

Travis opened one eye. “Sarcasm.”

“Big time,” I said. “I’m ordering pizza now.”

“Pepperoni?”

“I think you said pineapple?”

“If you put fruit on my pizza I’m calling the police.”

I burst out laughing. “Get out of here.”

My phone buzzed again.

Another freaking text from Tad!

Even just an emoji… please…

This guy was practically up my ass.

Not in a good way either.

I really had no clue what to do. We were in a small town and there wasn’t much hope of avoiding him. Yes, a conversation was needed - again - but for tonight, I texted him the emoji of the three z’s, giving the hint that I was resting, relaxing, sleeping… that I don’t want to fucking hear from you again tonight!

Then I ordered the pizza.

At least I’ll make one male in my life happy, right?

I hovered over the kitchen sink.

The light on above me.

When I looked at the window, I only saw my reflection.

In the daytime, the view was amazing. It made it worth washing dishes by hand sometimes.

An eerie silence moved through the house. Normally I was serenaded by the sound of the TV in my grandfather’s front room. Announcers arguing who was a better goal scorer and what team had the best penalty killing lineup. Or if it was closer to the end of the week and in season, it was all football talk.

He only took a break from it all to watch the news.

That always lasted about two minutes before he cursed at the screen and reminded me that we were all doomed.
