“I wasn’t snooping,” I said. “I just saw. I didn’t mean to see. But…”

I shrugged my shoulders.

“What? What is it? Tell me. Come on. Tell me.”

I stood up too. Towering over Sage.

She looked up at me without a care.

I fucking love her.

“You just never mentioned you were with someone, that’s all,” I said. “Not sure it really matters… but, you know, I was at your house. Twice. I had breakfast. I drove you to the funeral. And now I have you out at a bar…”

“Seems like if you knew something you wouldn’t be doing all of this.”

“Or maybe there’s only one person in the world that makes me act this way.”

Sage reached up and placed her hand over my heart.

She patted twice and then called for Steph again.

“Drinks are coming!” Steph called out. “One sec!”

“Need advice,” Sage said.

Steph brought us drinks and smiled bigger than she needed to.

“I’m going to say a name,” Sage said. “I want Henry to see your reaction.”

“Go for it,” Steph said.

“Tad.”

“Tad?” I ask, not even looking at Steph. “That’s his name? Tad? Isn’t Tad a word that means small?”

Steph laughed.

“See?” Sage asked.

“What?” I asked. “What do I see?”

“Tad isn’t what you think,” Sage said.

“But you did fool around with him,” Steph said, throwing Sage right under the bus.

“Ouch,” I said. “So you two are…”

“No,” Sage said. “There is no are. There’s maybe a small were.”

“You mean a tad were?” I asked.

Steph laughed again.

“Stop laughing at everything he says,” Sage said. “He doesn’t have a vagina.”

“So I can’t laugh then?” Steph asked.

“I need to know more now,” I said. “The floodgates have been opened.”
