“Fine. A boy named Tony in second grade. On a dare. If you want to count that. That was more like torture. Cooties and all. A real kiss though? Not until ninth grade. Steven Maner.”

She blinked her eyes fast.

“Hold on,” I said as I inched back. “You? With him? The quarterback of the football team? No way.”

“That’s right.”

“And I thought you were a hockey girl.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. Are you turned off now, Henry?”

I playfully inched back a little more.

Sage grabbed my shirt and pulled herself right off her barstool and almost climbed on top of me.

I thought she was going to fall so I grabbed her by her hips.

Fuck, feel these curves? These hips weren’t like this last time…

“I said first kiss,” she whispered. “Not best kiss.”

I grinned. “What was your best kiss, Sage?”

She shook her head. “You first, Henry.”

“That’s easy. You. Always. Forever.”

She released her hold on my shirt and pushed at me. “Oh, please. Shut up with that. You’re a famous hockey player. You’re rich. You’re telling me you haven’t had anyone better? I don’t believe it for a second. You haven’t dated super models? Or famous actresses? Or singers?”

“Not my style.”

“So you have no crazy stories to tell me?”

I leaned toward Sage. “Okay, honey… you want something a little crazy? What if I told you when you texted me about your grandfather, I was in a private room with a stripper who was just about naked…”

Sage’s eyes lit up.

She did not do jealousy well.

“That’s gross,” she said. She turned toward the bar again. “That’s not even right. I thought there were rules for that stuff. Like you can’t get fully naked. Or you can’t touch.”

“Wow, I didn’t realize you were an expert on strip club ethics,” I said.

Sage looked at me and oh did that look make me shiver.

I knew exactly how to handle this situation.

And by that, I meant how to make it a little more tense.

“Sorry if you didn’t want to know that… my love…”

Sage gasped. She spun back around and not only pointed at me, but she jammed her finger against my chest.

“I knew it! I knew you saw that! You acted weird after that! I knew it!”

She stood up.

Oh, she was angry now.
