I had a flight to catch back home.

To my life. To my hockey life.

One more quick fuck in the morning wasn’t a bad thing… but we knew if that happened… I’d never leave her bed. She’d never let me go either.

Life just didn’t work out for us that way.

When we were younger. Ten years ago. And right now.

“What time do you have to leave?” Sage whispered.

“As soon as I dump this cooled off coffee down the drain, honey.”

She nodded. “Got it.”

She put her cup down and reached for mine.

She poured my coffee out for me.

I grabbed her and hugged her.

There were a lot of unspoken words hanging between us.

Sage stepped back and looked up at me.

I couldn’t help myself as I lowered my mouth down toward hers.

Just one more kiss… a proper kiss… goodbye…

Sage shook her head, denying me that kiss.

Grinning as she did so.

Knowing she was torturing me.

I quickly slipped my hand to the middle of her back and pulled her right back against me.

This time I did not try to kiss her.

“If you’re ever in town…”

“What?” Sage asked, still teasing me.

“Honey, if you’re ever in my town, you better fucking call me.”

Chapter Eighteen

SAGE

It wasn’t until I finished my cup of coffee that I realized where I had been sitting the entire time.

At the dining room table.

At the exact spot where Henry had been…

I placed my right hand to the table.

My ass had been right there.
