“No gratitude, this one.” I wave my apple at her, talking to Sabrina, then I turn to her again. “You have fifteen minutes to get ready. Chop, chop, little rabbit. Time to get to work.” I slap the table with a straight face.

She freezes, to see if maybe I’m joking. But when I don’t flinch, she scoffs and heads upstairs.

I watch her perfect ass sway the whole way, and I take a long breath to control myself.

Breakfast down, I hop in the shower and take longer than necessary on purpose. Just to show who’s in charge. Today I have to go incognito, so I throw on a hoodie, joggers, and a pair of shades before heading to the kitchen.

I half-expect her to wear another sexy dress with heels, but to my surprise, she squeezed into a hot pair of yoga pants and a skintight blouse instead. Just as distracting.

I nod and click my tongue like she’s a dog, and she rolls her eyes.

“Sabrina dresses you well,” I say as she follows me outside.

“I thought Sal picks up all the clothes,” she pries.

“Sabrina orders them for pick-up.”

“Right. No deliveries, because then someone might see all your skeletons.” Ellie folds her arms.

“Keep talking, and you might become one of them.” I smirk all the way to the garage.

“Doubtful. You haven’t tasted me yet,” she says brazenly, and I get turned on and mad all at once.

Clicking the garage open, I take one look at her before opening the beat-up town car’s driver’s side door and sit down. My eyes dare her to try and run into the forest so I can chase her down again. She wouldn’t make it ten feet. But her pursed lips and annoyed expression tell me she’s staying put.

I roll out the car and climb back out.

“Not what I expected you’d drive around in,” she says.

“Exactly.” I pop the trunk and pull out two taxicab license plates, quickly screw them on, then open the back door for her.

“Really?” she says.

“Really.” I smile, making sure to show a bit of a scowl.

Before she folds into the seat, I grab her arm and tug her around so her back smacks against the car.

Her breathing quickens, as does mine. I want to tear open those yoga pants – pussy-first – and eat her out until she screams. That’ll wake up those morons upstairs.

I hold her eyes, lingering in the intensity of the air between us.

“Listen,” I say, sticking a finger in her face. “I found a use for you. And if you really want to stay alive, I suggest you play along, alright?”

“Depends.” She folds her arms again. “What do I have to do?”

I take a long breath before telling her.

“The Rigianos are close to the Barones, isn’t that right?”

She nods tentatively.

“Well, we’re going to use that little brain of yours to my advantage.”

She scoffs. “Can’t you just use me as a bookie or something? I used to help my dad with that all the time. I’m really good with numbers.”

She’s scared, I can smell it. Thinks I’m going to hurt her family or something.

“Here’s the deal, Ellie. You identify the Barone who runs the card game, and I let you live another day.”
