Smoke snorted, but he smiled.
“We wanted to run an idea by you,” Mom said.
“Shoot,” I said, sitting down on the edge of my bed.
“We figured you’d be getting a lot of visitors today,” Mom said. “The club and their…Old Ladies.”
I nodded. “My phone is blowing up with questions about when they can come over.”
“Thought so,” Mom said. “Well, your father and I were thinking of exploring the town. Getting out of the hotel for the day. Would that be okay with you?”
“We’ll stay if you need us to,” Dad offered. “But we’re getting a little squirrelly.”
“You and me both,” Smoke said.
“Go, with my blessing,” I stated.
“Are you sure it’s okay that we leave?” my mom asked.
“Absolutely,” I insisted. “We have food, we have the front desk if we need anything. I’m getting around better anyway. We have the nurse on speed dial. We’ll be fine.”
“I’d hug you, but I’m gross from the gym. We’re going to shower and then get out of here,” Mom said.
They headed back to their room and closed the door.
“Guess I better get cleaned up,” Smoke said with a wink. “Buzz the nurse for me?”

“Well?” Smoke asked once the nurse left again. “How’s my hair?”
“Looks a lot less greasy,” I assured him with a smile.
“I feel better,” he admitted. “I could get used to a woman bathing me.”
“Oh you could, could you?”
He flashed me a flirty grin. “For the record, I’d much rather it be you bathing me than a nurse.”
“Hmm.” I sent him a droll look and then shook my head. “How can you be this charming even while you’re recuperating?”
“One of my natural gifts.”
I grinned. “You hungry?”
“Not for lasagna. It’s too early, even for me.”
I handed him the room service menu and while I waited for him to choose, I texted everyone who’d contacted me about visiting.
And then I sent a text to Rach.

I heard Chase didn’t climb into bed until 5 AM…
“Pancakes,” Smoke said, setting the menu aside. “With extra butter and extra syrup.”
“That’s exactly what I want, but you’re supposed to eat bland food, remember?”
