“Jaden. I know my ex-husband extremely well. He won’t change, ever. And that’s one of the reasons our marriage failed.” She slides back down on the bed and lies on her back, staring at the ceiling.

I scratch my chin and say, “We can talk about this later. Let’s have some breakfast and walk around the property.” I caress her cheek.

She looks up at me.

“I don’t want you to miss out on your dreams. But I can’t move. Please understand, J.” She takes my hand in hers and threads her fingers with mine.

I lift her hand and kiss her knuckles, then slide my arms around her and hold her for a while.

I open my eyes after falling back asleep with Blaire in my arms. I kiss her hair and nuzzle my nose against her head.

“Mmm,” she sighs and raises her arms over her head.

“You feel so good.” She kisses my chest, then tilts her head up.

“Let me make you something to eat.”

“How about we make…” I glance at the clock on the bedside table. It reads 1:00 pm.

“…lunch together.” I smile and kiss her soft lips.

“I’d like that, J.” Blaire turns away from me and sits on her side of the king bed. She reaches for her silk robe draped over the end of the bed.

I stand and walk toward her. She smiles and stands next to me. Her arms slide around my waist as she hugs me, pressing her warm cheek to my pecs. I wrap my arm around her shoulders and lead her to the kitchen of our rental.

“What are we making?” I ask as I begin to make coffee. No matter what time of day it is, I need coffee to get my head straight.

Blaire taps her lips with her index finger and walks over to the pantry. She turns and says, “I think we need to go to the store, Jaden.”

I pull my phone from my shorts pocket and open the grocery delivery app.

“We can order what we need to cook with. Let’s make something easy, like…” I scratch my chin and think for a second.

“How about chicken piccata?”

Blaire rubs her hands together and licks her lips.

“That sounds delicious. May I?” She points to the coffeemaker when it beeps.

“Of course. Let me pour you a cup.” I reach to the cabinet above the coffeemaker and bring out two mugs. Pouring hers full, then mine, I hand her a cup. We take seats at the counter, and I order the ingredients for our lunch to be delivered.

When all the grocery items are delivered, Blaire and I put aprons on that she found in one of the many kitchen drawers.

I prep the chicken with salt and pepper, then dredge it in flour and shake off the extra. I find a large skillet in one of the long drawers next to the stove. Pouring in about three tablespoons of olive oil, I turn the burner on medium heat and wait a few minutes. Carefully, I lower each piece of chicken breast into the oil and let them fry for three minutes, then flip them over so they have a nice golden-brown sear to them.

“You doing okay, J?” she asks as she stands to the right of the stove.

“Yep. I’m great.”

With the chicken breasts nicely browned, I lay them on a plate, but before I sauté the capers, I walk over to where Blaire has begun to wash the asparagus. Standing behind her, I reach around her and cover her hands with mine. I lean down and kiss her shoulder as we snap the harder ends from the asparagus.

She turns her head, tilting it up and smiles warmly at me. Her blue eyes mesmerizing me as we work together to make lunch.

When the asparagus is all cleaned and ready for the bacon to be wrapped around it, she turns in my arms, pressing her cheek to my chest.

“Mmm, when can I have you?” she asks as she gazes up at me and smiles.

“Whenever you want, kitten.” My arms engulf her and hold her close.
