Standing in the open doorway was an older gentleman holding the bloody spear.

“Simone?” Chase heard Levi say over his shoulder.

“Your nightmare’s over, kiddo,” the man said, dropping the rod onto the concrete.

“Levi?” a painful voice called from around the corner. A moment later, Isaac appeared being held up by Jared, who was bleeding from his arm.

“Isaac! Jared! You guys came!” Levi cried out through tears of happiness.

“Of course, we did, shit for brains,” Isaac said, gripping his side. He appeared to have been stabbed. “Couldn’t let you have all the cool stories,” he winced with a smile.

A woman with light brown hair appeared behind their injured comrades. She looked terrified and weak.

“We need some help back here,” she said, glancing down the hallway.

“Police and ambulance are en route,” the voice of God—also known as Marc—said through Chase’s earpiece.

Fuck, would he ever remember that the man was listening in?

With a groan, Chase slowly got up, still gripping Levi’s arms.

“Still not letting you go, sunshine,” Chase whispered, taking Levi’s hand in his and stepping over Peabody’s motionless body.

LEVI

Stepping out onto the balcony, he let the cool breeze of the night gently roll over his exposed body. It was still warm out even though the night air had cooled, breaking the heat from the day.

Levi loved this view. At this time of night, you could see hundreds of stars shining brightly in the sky above. It was so peaceful. Much quieter than the bustle of downtown Paris. Matteo was lucky to have such a gorgeous home located out in the countryside.

Staring out over the balcony, Levi knew that he was lucky. Not many people would open their hearts and their homes to a struggling homeless street kid, scared and starving. Matteo had been that man, that beacon of hope who rescued him from the streets and gave him that chance at a better life. A life with a new family and a new home, one in which he was able to let his guard down and open his heart to all sorts of possibilities.

He closed his eyes and thought about how grateful he was for all that he had, like his brothers. He still couldn’t believe that messy and scatterbrained Isaac, along with control freak Jared, had risked their lives to come and rescue him. That was true love and loyalty. He couldn’t ask for better siblings.

Movement caught the corner of his eye. Levi slowly turned his gaze to the six-foot-three, hunky slab of real Canadian beef currently sprawled out on a lounge chair.

Talk about being lucky. Here was yet another example of the possibilities made attainable by Matteo and his love.

Chase.

His hero.

The man who led the charge to rescue his scrawny ass. The man who refused to give up until Levi was safely in his arms.

How was it that such an incredible and loving man had come to fall in love with him?

Talk about being grateful.

“Incredible view, isn’t it?” Levi said, walking across his balcony and over to where Chase sat in nothing but his black boxer briefs.

“Yeah, it is. It’s even more incredible when it has you standing in front of it,” Chase said with a mischievous smile.

Levi felt his cheeks flush. He still got giddy whenever Chase complimented him.

“Did you enjoy your shower?” Chase asked, spreading his legs so that Levi could take a seat between them and rest his head on his bare chest.

Chase wrapped his arms across Levi and held him close. This was now Levi’s favorite place to be—wrapped in Chase’s loving arms.
