“The shower was amazing. Felt good to finally wash all that blood and dirt off me. I feel like a new man.”

After Chase’s heroic rescue of Levi and the others, police and medics held them for hours, asking them questions and checking them over. Levi and Chase finally got the green light to go home around two in the morning.

Lacing his fingers with Chase’s, he pulled their hands close and gently kissed the back of Chase’s.

“I never want to lose you,” Chase whispered behind Levi. “When I couldn’t find you, there was such an ache in my chest. The thought of losing you almost destroyed me. I never want us to be apart again.”

Chase tightened his strong arms around Levi’s body. He felt so warm, so safe, so loved. There was nowhere else that he would rather be… ever. He needed this man. He needed Chase to know just how much he loved and needed him as well.

Rolling around in Chase’s arms, he lay flat against his chiseled chest and stared into Chase’s bright blue eyes. With his fingers, he gently moved a few stray strands of hair across his forehead.

“Your eyes,” Chase whispered, seeing the actual color of Levi’s eyes for the very first time.

While in the shower, Levi realized that there was one last thing that he wanted to share with Chase. His eyes. Many poets believed that the eyes were the windows to the soul, but Levi believed that they were the windows to the heart. It was because of this belief that he kept his eyes shielded from all those around him.

“They’re gorgeous,” Chase finished, eyes locked with his.

“I know many people think that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but in my opinion, I believe that they are the windows to our hearts.” Levi swallowed hard. He hoped that the next part would come out clear and not make him sound like a bumbling idiot. “In my line of work, I share my body with everybody. It’s just sex; there is no romance or connection. It’s an activity that releases a momentary burst of pleasure that dissipates just as fast as it was created. I decided long ago that I would only share the true color of my eyes with the man who I loved. It was something special and sacred, saved only for him. So, here I am, sharing my baby blue eyes with you.”

A smile grew across Chase’s face. “I love you, too.”

Their lips touched gently in one of the most heartfelt kisses Levi had ever experienced. He needed to share his feelings, all of them, with Chase.

“While I was sitting alone in that cell, the only thing that kept me going was the need to see your face again. I needed to look into those gentle eyes of yours and tell you that you mean the world to me. You make me feel so loved, so needed. You inspire me to be a better person. When I’m with you, I feel complete. Like I have both halves of my soul once again.”

Chase gently caressed the side of Levi’s cheek. “Why do the French say such wonderful words?”

Levi gave him a smirk. “Because we speak the language of love, amour.”

They both chuckled and leaned in for a kiss.

The world was perfect once again. Levi was blissfully happy being back in Chase’s arms.

Pulling his lips away from Levi’s, Chase casually reached underneath his chair.

“After we spoke in the car about your favorite childhood memory, I spent the afternoon scouring the city for this,” Chase said, passing Levi a black box wrapped with a single red ribbon.

The ribbon was tied in an elegant bow that rested on top of the box.

“What is this?” Levi asked, sitting up and straddling Chase’s lap, his second favorite place to sit.

Staring at him with those gorgeous blue eyes, Chase gave him a simple shrug of his shoulders. How was it that such a strapping hunk of a man could look so sweet and vulnerable?

Slowly, Levi pulled on the ribbon and watched as it slipped down the box and came to rest on Chase’s exposed six-pack.

Lifting the lid, he pulled back the layers of turquoise tissue paper until his heart stopped in his chest. He reached into the box and pulled out the ratty old item that had meant so much to him.

Eyes beginning to water, he held up an illustrated copy of Beauty and the Beast.

“Chase, what have you…” Levi whispered, his voice catching in his throat.

Chase ran his hands along the sides of Levi’s ass and gripped the top of his thighs.

“Well, I know it’s not the original copy that your mother gave you, but I was able to find a third-edition illustrated copy of the book and hoped that it might bring back some more of those happy memories that you had of your mom.”

“Chase, this is amazing,” Levi choked, covering his mouth with his hand and trying his hardest not to become a weeping mess of a man.

“Open the cover,” Chase whispered.
