“You’re damn right something happened. A tall blonde between his legs happened! I can’t go through this again. I am not going through this again. I shouldn’t even expect his loyalty because, after all, this is nothing but a contract. Just an agreement.” I couldn’t stand here listening to their bickering any longer. I needed answers.

“What the hell is going on?” I asked, walking into the living room. Bags were clustered near the entrance. “Why are you here, Liam? And what is all this luggage doing here?”

“I’m leaving. I’ll have my lawyers send you the divorce papers as soon as possible,” Francesca answered as she gathered her stuff.

“I don’t think I heard you correctly. Would you mind repeating?” I shook my head as if I didn’t quite grasp what she was saying.

“I said, I’m leaving.”

“And why is that? I should have told you Jamie was an Amato, but if I did, would you have even given me a chance?” I asked her while Liam shook his head “no” from behind her.

“That doesn’t even matter anymore. It’s just one more thing added to the list.”

“What? Can someone please tell me what the fuck is going on?” I shouted.

“I was at the club yesterday, Matt. And I saw you. You were having such a good time you didn’t even notice me.”

“Francesca, no more riddles. Tell me what the fuck happened,” I grunted, annoyed by all the non-answers they were giving me.

“I saw you with the blonde, Matt! I saw her… with you,” she yelled back. “I hope it was the best fucking blowjob of your life,” she hissed, anger dripping off every word.

“I have no clue what you’re talking about. I wasn’t with any blonde.”

“I saw you, Matt. No point in denying it. I saw it perfectly well, and so did Max,” she cut me off, pointing to Max who slowly nodded in confirmation, his lips pursed in silent judgment.

“I brought you home, and you were unconscious. Did you get drunk or something? Don’t you remember what happened?” Liam asked, trying to understand what happened.

“No,” I answered Liam before turning to Francesca. “And there was no blonde.”

I could feel my anger rising, feeling unjustly accused of breaking a vow that I made to Francesca without her even having to ask. Why the hell would I be seeking anyone else when she was all I needed?

I couldn’t let her leave like this. I needed to understand what the fuck happened. There had to be some kind of misunderstanding.

“Only there was, Matt. Unfortunately, the whole image is perfectly imprinted in my brain. Now, if you’ll both excuse me, I have a plane to catch,” she spat, turning to leave.

“FRANCESCA!” I growled, my voice low and menacing.

She didn’t so much as flinch. In two wide steps, I reached the gun I kept under the kitchen counter and shot at the elevator panel. The bullet passing only inches away from her arm.

Francesca stopped walking, her eyes stuck on the fuming button that now had a brand new hole featured on it.

“You shot at me?” She asked before turning around. “You actually shot at me?”

“I never miss.” I dryly stated. “If I wanted to shoot you, I would have. That bullet hit exactly where I meant it to.”

“I have no idea what you think you accomplished with that, but aside from pissing me off even further–”

“If you leave, this peace agreement is over.” I cut her off.

“WHAT?” She abruptly walked towards me with her eyes wide.

“Let me be as clear as I possibly can,” I started, slowly stalking towards her and meeting her halfway until I was barely a breath away. “If you leave, I will wreak havoc in Detroit. I’ll make sure it's burned to the ground, resumed to ashes, nothing but the devil’s fucking playground. Am I making myself clear?”

I stood there looking straight into her deep black eyes, not blinking once as the possibility of losing her wrecked me from the inside out. This probably wasn’t the best way to do things, but right now, I couldn’t see any other way to stop her from walking out that damn door.

“So this is how it’s gonna be?”

“Whatever it takes to keep you from doing something stupid.” She stood there, still facing me head-on, waiting for me to back down, but there was absolutely no chance I would. “I asked you a question. Did I make myself clear?”
