“That was a great wedding yesterday.”

He turned his head when Roxy walked in. Rob did a lot of cargo deliveries now. Mostly at night when Roxy was done and they shared her helicopter. But with summer in full swing, there were more tours and Roxy was helping out with them on Lincoln’s day off rather than her flying clients in and out of the Northeast. When the fall and winter rolled around, they wouldn’t have to worry about leaving his helicopter in Boston for Rob on his days off but for now he did what needed to be done.

“It was,” he said. “How many tours do you have today?”

“Two,” she said. “I think Rob said he’ll be here around two to get a cargo to fly out. He’ll be gone for about five hours. You get the boss’s big boy for the week. Lucky you.”

“It’s the only time I’ve got it,” he said.

Egan took one full day off a week and his helicopter didn’t normally fly on those days. He knew Egan tried to give himself a light schedule other days, but during their busy season it wasn’t always possible, which was why Lincoln was taking all the night calls if they came in.

“You’ll get spoiled having it,” Roxy said.

“Not a big deal,” he said. “I’m pretty basic.”

“I know that,” Roxy said, grinning. “It’s what I’ve always loved about you.”

He turned and looked at her. He wasn’t sure why those words surprised him, but they did.

“I don’t think I could be any different,” he said. “Here comes Egan. See you at some point, I’m sure.”

He left to meet Egan and when everyone was off, climbed in while Egan brought them to Logan. He helped them get their luggage down, wished them well and took off for Amore Island for his next group to bring back to Boston.

Before he was ready to fly back to the island for the night, Rob came in.

“That was crazy yesterday,” Rob said.

“It was,” he said. “I expected it with Egan and the casino going all out.”

“They spared no expense,” Rob said.

He wasn’t sure why Rob would think they would. “Nope. Egan’s mother pretty much did it all. Blake was more laid back about it and Conrad said anything that Blake wanted she was getting.”

“Must be nice to come from a family like that,” Rob said. “Meredith was just in awe of it all. She told me if I have a chance to come on here full time I should take it.”

He knew Rob flew for one of the hospitals. He was full time, but it was only three days a week and long shifts.”

“That would be up to Egan,” he said.

“Roxy seemed surprised about your girlfriend,” Rob said.

“What?” he asked. “Why?”

“She didn’t know you had a girlfriend. I guess I thought you two might have had something at some point and were working back toward it.”

“No,” he said. What was he missing? “Why would you think that?”

“She talks about you all the time. Just comments she’s said about the one that got away. I thought it was you.”

“We are friends,” he said. “I knew her in the Air Force. I hadn’t talked to her or seen her for years prior.”

“I know,” Rob said. “But it’s the things she says. I don’t know. Ignore me. I could be getting a different vibe. I just figured she moved here and all...”

“Not sure what to say,” he said, shrugging. “We’ve never been anything other than friends and now colleagues.”

“And now that you’re dating Egan’s cousin, she might be a bit bummed. Just giving you a heads up.”

“Thanks,” he said and left for home.
