Page 40 of Tainted Desire

I was dancing with Nina, then slow-dancing in Frank’s arms.

He pulled me against him. “You’re as gorgeous as ever,” he whispered against my temple.”

I rolled my eyes.

“How’s your sex life, nowadays?”

I chuckled. Non-existent was the answer. My mind immediately went to a devilishly handsome Alex staring at me over the table.

I hadn’t had any sexual desire—until the last few days when a cocky but crazy good-looking asshole got me all riled up.

“I’ve found a couple of sex clubs right here in Valletta. How about we check the local scene out together?” Frank went on without even waiting for an answer.

Not that I would tell him my sex life sucked. Maybe going with him to a sex club would be the push out of my funk. Even though I couldn’t imagine having a stranger touch me.

“Would you do a scene with me?” I asked Frank.

He leaned back, narrowed his eyes, and examined my face. He knew and I knew that he was not what I needed in this regard. But maybe right now, he was exactly what I needed. Frank was safe, a friend, not a threat.

“You sure?”

I nodded.

“Then, okay. Let’s connect and set up a date in the next couple of days,” Frank said.

I smiled at him, then touched his cheek. “You’re a good friend.”

He waggled his eyebrows. “A good friend who desperately needs to get laid. Fabio,” he shouted.

I laughed, then looked around. Nina was dancing with the hunk she had been flirting with before, and they stopped right next to us.

“I need to get laid,” Frank said in his most whiney voice.

Nina chuckled.

I didn’t know why exactly Frank called her Fabio, but it was their codeword.

Frank and Nina had always been mutual wingmen, though I’d never actually seen Nina go beyond flirting with anyone.

But she always had Frank’s back. How that dynamic worked, I had no idea, but I watched them wave at me and leave.

Frank wasn’t only safe to play with. He was safe because I had zero feelings—beyond friendship—for him, and he felt the same for me.

The other guy, the one Nina had just abandoned, grabbed my hips and pulled me against him. “So, beautiful? I’m Ali, and your name is?”

I froze. Then forced myself to relax.

I needed to get over it.

Ali had a strong accent…and mesmerizing dark eyes. Not unlike Alex’s eyes—the one man who also hadn’t cared to ask before touching me.

The one man whose dark, stormy eyes met mine from across the makeshift dance-floor.

And then suddenly, the floodlights went on, men in black suits flooded the area, and the music stopped.

CHAPTER TEN

“Ahem, boss?” Matteo entered my office.
