“Why? Who? Fuck.” I flew around.

“What?” Matteo was right by my side, sprinting through the door and towards the front of the club.

“There’s a new barkeeper who took over from Mario. And I left Fee right there,” I shouted.

We burst through the doors and across the club. My heart pounded in my chest until I saw her.

Her creamy white top glowed like a beacon of light in the dark. She smiled, then threw her head back, laughing at something Cherry was telling her.

She was safe.

I stopped and took a breath, still staring at her from halfway across the room.

Holy shit.

For a moment there, the thought of my princess being in danger really freaked me out.

“Grab him. Let’s hear if the new guy has something to say.”

“You think we’re being infiltrated?” Matteo asked.

I clenched my jaw. “That’s what we need to find out. Let’s get to the bottom of this. First the attack, then the theft. Now this. Someone is trying very hard to annoy me. Or send a message.”

“And what kind of message would that be?”

I ran my fingers through my hair. “No fucking clue.”

I walked straight up to Fee. “Hey, princess.” I kissed her temple. “I will be a while. Do you want to wait in my office?”

I looked down at her, and she glanced up at me. She narrowed her eyes, as if she could see something was bothering me, then she shook her head. “I’ll wait down here with Cherry and Floyd.”

I clenched my jaw—always defying me. I made eye-contact with one of the security guards, who immediately came running.

“Watch her.”

He nodded.

“Closely.”

Fee sighed and shook her head.

But I didn’t care.

From now on, she wouldn’t be alone, not even for a second.

I turned around and strode behind the bar and followed Matteo and the new barkeeper into the back.

This was a shot in the dark.

Maybe he wouldn’t know anything—but I had to make sure. And I needed to get to the bottom of it.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

“That was a waste of time,” Matteo said while we washed our hands in the sink.

As it turned out, the new barkeeper knew exactly nothing—but he was a bleeder.

One good knock on the nose, and he sprayed the whole room while begging for mercy.
