“I thought you said she was with your brother?” Madison’s nasal voice pushes Brianna into the room and out of my eyesight.

Turning to Madison, I raise a brow. I can feel her envy growing. Will she take the bait? “She is.” My elbows touch the desk as I lean forward. “But my brothers and I like to share,” I whisper.

Her envy is at its max. Just a simple word of attempted sabotage will give my power a boost. “You know she has a kid, right? And she never does anything. You look like you need a wild girl. That is not Bree. She’s boring.” And there it is.

The power washes through my body and I breathe it in. “Any other faults?”

“Well, let’s see.” Madison starts counting on her fingers. “She’s fat. She’s messy. She’s rude. She’d rather read a book at home than have someone watch her son for an hour so she can go out. Basically, she’s a loser with baggage.” Every word she speaks against Brianna fuels my power a little more. It also fuels my rage.

“You know what?” The tone of my voice blows my true emotion. I lean in and she matches my movements, thinking we’re flirting with each other. “I think you’re right. She is boring.” Madison’s smile grows and her eyes fill with triumph. “You know what else she is?” She’s hanging on my every word and her gaze continues to flit between my eyes and lips. “She’s honest. Protective. Smart. Loyal.” I stand to my full height, towering over her. “She’s mine. And I won’t have you speak another bad word about her.”

Madison stands, aggressively kicking her chair back. “Well, how loyal can she be if you’re sharing her with your brother? Who knows who else she has on the side!”

“I think she has her hands full with the seven of us and her son.” Victory is mine with the last word. I spin and walk towards the door, smug at the way her face dropped.

Today is a good day.

11. Bree

Today is the weirdest day.

Rellick woke up asking why ‘Bubby’ didn’t like him. Madison was being super rude all day. Envy asked me on a date. Then, Madison’s attitude got worse. Now, I’m trying to get dressed for a night out while the sin of gluttony sits on my bed with Rellick, ‘helping’ me.

“If anyone knows what Levi likes, it’s me. I am his brother, after all.” Sweetie is full of shit. He’s chosen the ugliest outfits I have in my closet. I’m not sure if he’s playing a joke on me or Envy. “Isn’t that pink dress beautiful?” he asks Rellick.

“I like it Mommy.” This is the fourth time I’ve heard that. This is also the fourth outfit. Rellick is just ready to go play, but I could kiss Sweetie for including him.

“Well, I don’t like the pink.” I reopen my closet door, looking for anything that catches my eye. Purple looks the best on me, but I don’t want to represent Lucifer. It’s so hard when they each have their own specific color. The green dress I have is a little tight.

Envy is gorgeous! A serious Adonis. His green eyes have a sly gleam. His mocha-colored body looks sculpted to perfection. Levi is the complete opposite of me. Our only similarity is the color of our eyes. I’m pale. I’m sculpted like Jello. I’m the same height as a child. Why does he want to date me? Because Sloth and Gluttony do? Am I a competition? Didn’t Pride say I was a bet?

“What’s going on in that head of yours?” Beelzebub’s voice breaks me out of the self-depreciative trap in my mind.

None of the sins have lied to me yet. Can I expect Sweetie to be truthful? “Angel said I was a bet….” I turn to look at this gorgeous man who’s tickling and wrestling with my son on the floor. “What are you doing?”

“I’m listening to you,” Gluttony breathes out. “Wait, little man.” He stands, lifting Rellick on his hip. They look like a father and son duo and, I swear, I could get pregnant again just looking at that. “You aren’t a bet, but you are part of one.”

“Explain.” Without thought, I place my hands on my hips like I’m talking to one of my daycare kids. It’s a habit that I don’t mean to do, but at the same time, I want to be intimidating.

Sweetie chuckles to himself, showing me that I’m not as intimidating as I think I am. “Hey little man. Why don’t you go into your room for a minute? I need to talk to your mom.” He places my son on the ground who doesn’t hesitate to follow his suggestion. Why doesn’t he listen to me like that? “I have no idea what you know or what you teach your son.” He says to start off. “We believe that God has forgotten Earth. Us Sins are more powerful than ever; however, we still have our curse in place. We…”

“What curse?”

“Only one of us can leave Hell at a time. God placed this punishment on us when Azazel tried to take over and lost.”

“Who’s Azazel?”

“He’s Adon’s twin.”

“Who’s Adon?”

A loud sigh escapes Beelzebub’s plush lips. “Brianna, do you want to know about the bet or not?” His tone is aggravated while his face shows amusement.

“Yes, I’m sorry. Continue.” I sit in the middle of my bed, legs crossed like one of my toddlers, giving him my full attention.

He nods his head, moving on with the history lesson. “Thank you. Adon is God. It’s his real name. He and Azazel are twins from another realm. Adon created Heaven. Azazel created Hell. We are of equal strength. The brothers came together to create Adam and Lilith.”

“Lilith?” An eyebrow raises in a silent warning. I mime zipping my lips and locking them.
