“Devil already gave me shit for it. I meant to summon just Mera, but I did it wrong and summoned her brother too, and whatever. Not the point.” Bree comes to stand in front of me, Rellick sitting on the couch still staring daggers at me. “What will happen to them if I’m not here?”

“Nothing. They’ll be summoned back once it’s been 24 hours. They’re fine. Just call this Josie person and let them know what’s going on.”

Bree nods her head in agreement before pulling out her phone. The girl doesn’t answer so Bree sends a text message. “Alright, let’s go.”

I take her hand, Rellick jumping over the couch to take her other, and open a portal to the throne room. Lucifer is the only one there.

“Luc,” Rellick growls out.

His head lifts from the tablet, his smile sly. “Hello, Darling.” Brianna tenses at the endearment. I guess I’m liked better than the angel by both of them.

“Where’s Santa?” Lucifer’s eyes fill with annoyance for only a second, then the emotion is covered.

He stands from his throne, hovering above the ground. Like a pretentious douchebag. “You’ve come on a day where everyone is busy.” A douchebag who’s full of shit. “But if you need someone to watch the child while you spend time with Envy, I am more than capable.”

I want to spend more time alone with Bree. But would I trust Pride with a child? No.

Then again, it’s not my decision. Brianna has all say-so over Rellick. If she wants to be alone with me, I will be amazed, but I would understand if she can’t.

She turns to me, her bottom lip caught between her teeth. I try to convey with my eyes that I am okay with whatever she chooses to do.

We stare into each other’s eyes for a moment before she turns to Rellick, getting down on her knees so they’re the same height. “What do you want to do? Do you want to go with Luc or go home?”

“I want Santa.”

Pushing a strand of hair out of his face, Bree cradles her son’s cheek. “I know you do, sweet boy. But Santa is busy right now.” His eyes start to water, and Bree pulls him close to her chest. “We can go home and try again another day?”

Lucifer clears his throat, bringing all attention to him. Attention whore. “I can be just as much fun, if not more, than Santa.” I scoff loud enough for Pride to hear. “I can!” His wings flare out to their longest width at his exclamation.

Rellick studies the wings, his eyes widening in awe. “I can stay with Luc, Mommy.”

His voice is firm, confident in his decision. His green and gold eyes now filled with mischief. He’s got something planned for the angel. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah.” Rellick gives a final nod, a smirk touching his lips. Lucifer is in so much trouble. He tentatively walks to Lucifer and takes his hand, turning to wave to his mother. “Bye.”

Pride lifts him onto his hip, and they blink out of the room. Brianna turns her attention to me, wearing a bright genuine smile. “I don’t want to leave Hell, just in case, but…” She holds her hands behind her back, inadvertently sticking out her chest. “I’m all yours.”

I return her smile with my own. For once, she is all mine.

29. Lucifer

Now is the perfect opportunity to test my theories. Most supernatural children don’t complete their transitioning until the age of seven. However, there are certain signs that you can know to look for as it gets closer. There are no angel children. None that any of us are aware of. How would I even test to see if Rellick were an angel?

“So, what we doing?” Rellick is sitting on a couch in my bedroom looking out the window. My room is at the top of the tallest tower. You can see most of Hell from any window in here.

I don’t know how to approach a three-year-old, so I figure my best bet is to just be direct. “Do you know your father?” He nods his head. I wait for him to continue but he does nothing. “Can you tell me about him?” Another nod, but Rellick isn’t actually speaking. “Are you going to answer me?”

Rellick turns to me with a heavy sigh. As though I’m the child in this scenario. “I did.”

“No. You did not. You moved your head. That’s not an answer to my questions.” He shrugs his shoulders and I’m starting to lose my patience.

Since he’s decided not to answer any questions, let’s see if he has any type of power. I sit across from him in front of the window and snap my fingers to grab his attention. “Want to learn some magic?”

His eyes grow wide, and I know he’s hooked.

Every angel has the ability to make light. We are meant to be the light in the darkness. Cupping my hands, I focus on Rellick’s reaction as a small ball of white light glows from between my palms. This is the easiest thing an angel can do. It’s the very first thing every angel learns; to let His light shine. Even the lowest of angels can create God’s light.

“Woah!” Rellick leans forward focusing on the glowing orb encompassed in my hands. I clap my hands together, snuffing out the light. “I want to do that!”
