“I’m not asking you to move in with me, my beautiful girl. I’m telling you that you’re moving in with me.”

“But what if someone finds out? It would be terrible news for your company, especially now with all the news surrounding your uncle’s escape from prison, your falling stock prices, and everything else. You can’t have the news break that you’re fucking one of your employees too, not right now,” I protested, and he cleared his throat, his eyes darkening with warning.

“I’m not just fucking you,” he growled dangerously. “This is about so much more than that. I love you. I think you’re an amazing woman. I want to take care of you, spoil you, and give you the world, and I’m not taking no for an answer. Tomorrow, I’ll send someone for your things, but your time in that apartment is over.”

“You love me?” I asked, my mind short-circuiting on that single part of the conversation.

“Yes, my beautiful girl.”

My heart pounded so wildly, I thought I might pass out.

“I love you too,” I breathed, and his face broke out into a huge grin.

“Is that a yes then?” he asked.

“I thought I wasn’t going to get a choice,” I teased, and he smirked.

“You’re not,” he confirmed. “It was simply a matter of whether or not I was going to take my belt off when I took you home tonight.”

I flushed scarlet.

“I love that color on you,” he praised, making me blush even deeper.

“Stop it,” I begged.

“Never. Not when it comes to you. Now, eat your dinner, sweetheart.”

I turned my attention to the dinner in front of me. I had chosen a delicate sea bass that was cooked to utter perfection and resting on a bed of sautéed greens with a light, citrus-infused sauce. Each bite left me groaning with absolute delight.

As we continued our meal, the waiter stopped by our table to check in on us.

“Everything is excellent, thank you,” Hunter said, smiling at the attentive service.

A moment later, to our surprise, the waiter returned with a bottle of chilled champagne and a decadent piece of chocolate cake.

“Compliments of the chef,” he announced, pouring the sparkling wine into our glasses with practiced ease before he slid the cake in front of me. The cake was rich and indulgent, topped with a delicate chocolate garnish.

Hunter raised his glass, offering a toast. “To new beginnings,” he said, his gaze locking with mine.

I clinked my glass against his, the sound crisp in the quiet of the restaurant. “To new beginnings,” I echoed, feeling a surge of excitement and desire.

We each took a sip of champagne. The bubbles tickled my nose, and I smiled.

“I think I could get used to this,” I murmured, and he leaned across the table, capturing my hand with his.

“So could I, my beautiful girl. So could I.”

“So, tomorrow.” I cleared my throat. “You’re supposed to volunteer at the orphanage, right?”

“Yes, sweetheart.”

“I want to go with you. If that’s okay, I mean.”

He smiled broadly. “I would love for you to come with me. I can’t wait to introduce you to the kids.”

I grinned in return, but my smile must have faltered.

“What’s wrong?” he asked. “Did something I say make you sad?”
