I point to Gibson and Jett. “Any idea what they’re fighting about?”

Indigo’s smile vanishes. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”

“You just proved it does matter.”

“I’m going to tell her,” Leia says and Indigo scowls at her. “She needs to know what she’s getting herself into with dating Gibson.”

Leia grasps my hands. “Don’t run away.”

“Famous last words,” Virginia mutters.

“Gibson and Jett have an ongoing bet on who can sleep with the most women,” Leia says. “And by sleep I mean have sex.”

“I kind of figured as much,” I say while my mind whirls. I knew Gibson was a player when I agreed to this charade. I didn’t know he was a complete and utter asshole. Sure, I suspected. But now it’s confirmed.

Strike three. He’s out.

Chapter 37

Happily ever after – something Fender never thought he’d have but he’s not giving it up

A month later

Fender

“This is the last of the boxes,” I say as I set the box in the hallway.

Leia glances around her hallway, which is currently filled with boxes. “How do you have this much stuff?”

“Why wouldn’t I have stuff?”

“You wear the same jeans and t-shirt ensemble every day. You had no decorations up in your rental house. What could you…. Hold on, is this all musical equipment?”

I grunt.

“I’m assuming your grunt is a yes.” She’s not wrong. “I know you’re a professional musician but where are we going to put all this stuff?”

“We’ll leave it in boxes until the extension’s finished.”

Her head snaps back. “The extension? We’re not putting on an extension.”

“But you love this house.”

She nods. “I do.”

“But this house isn’t big enough for a family.”

Pain flashes in her eyes before she covers it up and wags a finger at me. “I agreed to you moving in. I didn’t agree to give you children.”

I snatch her hands and draw her near. “I’m sorry.”

She blows out a breath. “You don’t have to apologize a million times.”

“Yes, I do. You’re still hurting.”

“I need time.”

“Okay.” I kiss her nose and step back.
