I meant it when I said the choice is Briar’s. That didn’t mean, though, that I was going to retreat into a corner.

Resistance might have worked fine back in San Francisco. It’s clearly no longer an option this week now that we’re talking about great boyfriends and battery-operated ones too.

And if my friend and the woman I want are talking about sex toys, then I’m damn well going to toss my hat in the ring.

Under the soft light of the deck, I knock back some scotch, then set the glass down on the arm of the wooden chair, my eyes on the blonde beauty in front of me. “Do you want to tell me about these toys?” I add. An invitation, I hope.

Her pupils dilate. Her lips part. But she’s quiet, her breath just gusting across her lips.

Then, after a few potent seconds where the only sounds are branches rustling and the skitter of paws as Donut settles onto the deck, Briar tosses a question back at me. “Do you want to hear about them?”

It’s asked as if she wants to be certain where I stand. Fair enough. She deserves clarity.

“I absolutely do,” I say.

She shifts her gaze to Hollis, checking in with him. “Do you want me to tell him? About the gift?”

Now I’m even more intrigued.

But not surprised that Hollis nods immediately. Hollis is a gamer. “Yeah. Tell him,” he says. Then the confident fucker runs a hand down her hair.

She shudders and dear god, it’s beautiful. She’s beautiful.

Briar takes a beat, possibly to emerge from a fog of lust. “Hollis got me a toy,” she says to me, her breath a little raspy, like she’s turned on from the talking and from his touch.

I barely have time to think about the boldness of Hollis buying her a sex toy. I’m keener on her reaction—she’s aroused from his hand in her hair. He knows it too. He sweeps those blonde strands off her shoulder. “It’s going to be so fun to play with,” he murmurs to her.

“It is,” she says, her breath feathery.

“Sounds like a perfect night,” I say, then let my gaze linger on her a little longer. Briefly, my mind whirls to contracts, to the meetings my agent has coming up after the break, to her suggestions I see a therapist. To romance and all its awfulness. To the future. But I’ve had enough of all that. This is one week away from reality. I stop holding back. “Want company?”

Her eyes say yes before her mouth can form the word. Her gaze shifts to Hollis. “Is that cool with you?”

Hollis slides a hand down her back. “Absolutely.”

She gasps, part excitement, part lust. “You guys…want to share?”

There it is. The most wonderful question ever. An opportunity. A curiosity. A match lit and a forbidden desire kindled.

“I do,” I say, plainly, so there’s nothing unclear.

Hollis curls his hand over her ass. “We do. Would you be into us sharing you, Briar?”

She shudders out a sexy breath, her eyes locking with mine as he touches her. “I would. But…I don’t know how this works.”

I take this one, answering with, “We know how to do this.”

“We’re pretty fucking good at it,” Hollis adds, his fingers traveling down her lush locks again. “Want to know why?”

“Yes.” She sounds desperate, like how I feel.

Hollis nods to me, a hand off.

I rise, close the distance to Briar, and for the first time ever, touch the woman I’ve been craving in the way I want to, tucking a finger under her chin. “Because we’re both obsessed with making you feel good.”

She sways closer to me, and it takes all the restraint in the world for me not to kiss her right now.
