No one has ever treated me this way before. It’s stunning.
And even as the shock of it all starts to wear off, I still feel myself falling, for him, and into the darkness towards him.
It’s where my heart longs to be.
And no matter how terrifying it is, there’s no ignoring the simple fact that what we do together in the darkness feels amazing.
A sigh escapes my lips as I close my laptop and set it aside.
A queen. That’s what he thinks I could be.
I’m tired of being a victim. A prisoner to gilded cages and powerful men.
How nice it would be to conquer this darkness. And how nice it would be to do it all beside a man who believes in me enough to help me get there.
But then there’s his obsession on getting me pregnant. There’s my schoolwork. There’s my family.
Fuck Sonia. She can rot in hell. But my father is still… well, he’s my father.
Could he actually sell me?
When I hear a commotion downstairs, I know that I’ll be getting my answer soon enough. The anticipation is so powerful that I feel nauseous.
Ray is home.
He’s the only one who’s allowed in the house.
It doesn’t matter that I haven’t even found the right words to respond to Janice’s repeated texts and calls, I leave my phone behind as I stand up from the bed.
Guilt might tug at my heart for ignoring her, but another, more powerful force pulls me out of the bedroom, and down the hall.
I need to see Ray again.
I need to see if this is real.
Really, that’s all I want. To know that this isn’t just some twisted case of cabin fever or Stockholm syndrome. To know that everything will be alright. To know that he’ll protect me. Teach me.
Love me.
That four letter word crosses my mind again just as we meet each other at the top of the stairs.
It hits me like a comet, and I nearly stumble backwards at the power of it.
That’s the second time it’s come up today.
Could this be that?
Love?
“Ray…”
Before I can think another word, he’s on me.
His kiss is strong yet supple. His hands are rough yet caring. His body is burning hot, yet so perfect that I can only sink into him before gathering the strength to kiss him back.
“You’re mine,” he says, when our lips finally fall apart again.
“… Father sold me?”
