I’m here, baby. It’s going to be alright. Just hold on tight.
Stomping down on the gas pedal one last time, I surge forward until I’m eye-level with the Cadillac’s shattered backseat window.
My heart plummets when I see the scene inside.
A bloody Sonia is all over my restrained princess, walloping her in the face while she screams like a fucking maniac.
“Where did my gun go!?” Sonia blares, her screeching just loud enough to cut through the roaring wind.
“Fuck you!” Francesca’s snaps back. She’s trying to be strong, but even in all of this chaos, I can hear the pain in her voice.
Fuck this.
I can’t let her hurt for a second longer.
With a heart full of love and fury, I take a sharp turn, crashing directly into the Cadillac’s passenger door.
Sonia and Francesca both scream as the far side of the car collides with a guardrail, spraying sparks up from the shearing metal.
“Hold on!” I roar to Francesca, my knuckles turning white as I push harder and harder into the dented Cadillac.
But whoever’s driving the thing is pushing back.
Lifting my gun, I point it across my shoulder and aim it at the dark divider in the Cadillac’s back seat. It only takes three shots to crack through the inside, and then another two to take out the driver from behind.
Just like that, the Cadillac stops resisting my attempts to slow it down. But that doesn’t mean it actually slows the fuck down. In fact, the fucking thing only speeds up as the dead body in the driver’s seat collapses onto the gas pedal.
“Fuck!” I curse, watching in horror as the Cadillac’s wheels start to quiver below the frame.
The car is going to flip. And it’s going even faster than before.
There will be no survivors. Not unless I do something drastic…
Unlatching my seatbelt, I reach over to my glove department and pull out the heaviest object I can find. A brown paper bag filled with bribe money.
Then, I tuck my gun under my belt and drop the bag on my gas pedal, allowing the car to keep its speed as I climb out of my seat and through my open window.
Behind the shattered Cadillac window, I can see Francesca struggling to keep her eyes open. Sonia is on the ground, her head turned away from me. She isn’t moving.
This is my only shot.
With the dead body in the driver’s seat propelling them forward, I know there’s only one way Francesca will survive what’s about to happen.
She needs someone to protect her from the inevitable impact.
And there’s no one left to do it but me.
With one final deep breath, I jump out of my window, towards the Cadillac.
I’ve hardly blinked before my chest smacks against the outside of the door, stealing my breath away. But the top half of my body manages to get inside, and I’m quickly able to grab onto a headrest.
Still, my feet dangle in the open air outside as my car veers away from the Cadillac and into traffic. Tires screech and horns honk and fenders collide behind me, but I don’t give a fuck.
There’s only one thing on my mind.
Save Francesca. No matter the cost.
Pushing through all of the pain and danger, I pull myself in through the window, just as the Cadillac begins to wobble out of control.
