This is what I deserve.

I’m not waiting long before I hear Domenico’s booming voice start to shout on the other side of the thick wooden doors again.

It agitates me. This all may be fun, in a twisted kind of way, but it’s not as enjoyable as what I’ve done with Francesca. It’s not as fun as what I plan to do with her.

These fuckers better hurry up, or I’m going to get mad. I want to get back to the little virgin I have hidden away in my room.

Thankfully for the Italians, it doesn’t take much longer before one of the massive wooden doors squeaks open.

A large, square-jawed guard steps out and gives me a quick look over. Really, I should kill him on the spot for even looking at me like I’m anything other than his boss, but I quickly let it go when he motions me inside.

“Watch yourself, boy,” I threaten as he steps forward to frisk me.

He doesn’t respond, but I can hear Silvio call him back as I step past the oversized goon, into the cluttered office.

“Ray Byrne. To what do I owe this pleasure.” Domenico is quick to stand up and play the role of respectful underling, but his burning red eyes and sweat-drenched black hair gives him away even more than his earlier shouting.

“Cut the crap, Domenico,” I immediately growl. “When I arrive, I expect to be given an immediate audience.”

“We weren’t expecting you.”

“Does that matter?”

I can see that the Italian is desperately trying to hold back his anger from me. There is so much I could do to punish him, and we both know it.

He’d never get his daughter back if I decided to lock him in Calligastaro’s prison for insubordination.

He should be careful.

“Excuse my insolence,” Domenico mumbles, grinding his teeth down to nubs as he forces himself to bow ever so slightly. “It’s been a rough morning.”

“I’ve heard,” I taunt.

Domenico’s eyes immediately turn to Silvio, accusation burning from his glare.

“What have you heard?”

“Everything,” I say. “But don’t worry, it wasn’t old Silvio here who told me. He was very tight lipped.”

“What do you know?” Domenico asks, turning his gaze back on me.

“I know that your daughter is missing,” I say, cutting to the point.

“How do you know that?”

“Because I am the Great Don,” I sneer, stepping forward. “I know everything.”

“Do you know where she is?”

“Not yet.”

“So, you don’t know everything.”

Even Silvio is surprised by his boss’s forwardness. But I’m not angry. This is good. I want him on edge. Maybe something useful might slip out of that slimy mouth.

“Careful now, Domenico,” I tease, taking another step towards his messy desk. “You don’t want to say anything you might regret.”

“I already have enough regrets to bury a mountain,” he spits.
